I'm working on hooking up all my Pentair equipment on a brand new DIY pool build. I have a Pentair Intelliflo3 VSF pump and a Pentair Intellicenter. I've wired my pump power (240v) to the first relay (labeled FLTR) on the board and I've got a 2 wire cable run from the RS485 on the pump/Intellicenrtr. I've installed the pump in the Intellicenter program. The pump relay clicks power to the pump when I go into say, Pool mode, but the pump doesn't start... the lites are on at the pump but I have to push the start/stop manual button on the pump. How do I get the Intellicenter brain to control the Intelliflo so I can control all my functions with automation?

The IntelliFlo pump must get constant AC power.. It is not wired to the load side of the Pump/Filter relay!!!
For the pump to run, several things have to happen...
1. The pump must be connected to the RS-485 com port in the Automation (The pump must show it is under automation control. When the pump has a display it will show "Display not Active".. Not sure how this is done on the IntelliFlo3)
2. The System must be in AUTO
3. The system needs to have at least one Circuit scheduled to be on.. (Usually the Pool or Spa Circuit, but can be any circuit.)
4. The Circuit that is on, must have a pump speed assigned to it. (As in Pool Circuit = 1500 RPM)
5. The Pump Type must match the pump you have.. ( As in VS, VF, VSF, etc..)
You should NEVER need to push the "F" (Pump/Filter) button to turn on the pump.

Okay, got the pump to come on through the automation as you prescribed. However, the pump runs for about 60 seconds (about 15 psi of water pressure) then slowly throttles down in speed to a crawl (maybe 3-4 psi). I tried to set up a second instance of the vsf at a higher speed but the Intellicenter says "connection lost" in status. However, initial pump instance still comes on when called for... but with the same slow down. Can you point me where to troubleshoot on this?
BTW, I definitely have enough return water flow valves open to handle the water pressure. I thought maybe it was a safety mechanism of the pump to not flow at a high rate if return water was closed off... but that's not the issue.

Check the firmware level on your pump. Firmware 3.04 and 3.03 has bugs and if you have that you need to call Pentair Support and have your pump firmware updated.

You should be able to find it somewhere on the Pentair HOME app connected to it. Put your IntelliCenter in SERVICE mode and connect to the pump using Pentair HOME.
I suggest you add the Optional Touchscreen Controller (Almond - P/N 356159z, Black - P/N 356348z). It will come in handy many times in managing your pump.

What speeds do you have set inside your IntelliCenter???
Sounds to me like the pump comes on, and primes, and then drops back to the speed you set up...
At 1200 RPM, my filter pressure is about 1 lb..
Large VS pumps running at low RPMs and large filters do not have much back-pressure. Yet have plenty of water flow.
Edit... Does your pump get constant AC power or it is wired to through the pump/filter relay?????

Okay, light bulb moment... I had no frame of reference for the relationship of rpms to psi (or the actual sound of my pump running). I set the rpms higher in the Intellicenter and it seems to be working now. However, I need to set up multiple instances of the pump at various speeds to assign to the spa and water features. When I try to add a second pump, it gives me the 'lost connection' error for that pump (but the initial instance of the pump still works okay). Am I missing something about how to do this?

You do not setup multiple instances of the pump.
You set speeds for the pump for the various circuits.

Thanks. I've found this link: IntelliCenter Circuits / Pump and Valve Associations that looks super helpful. Just need to figure out how to get a user account on the Intellicenter2.com website and I can do this all from my desktop (saving me a lot of running in my flip flops)!
