My pool sevice company notified me of a pin hole leak in the PVC coming into the booster pump for my Polaris 3900 Sport. Attached is a grainy picture they shared with me. They wanted $300 to repair, which felt really high. It seems to me, that i would just need to cut behind current valve, install new valve + small PVC fitting into a coupler that attaches to the black booster pump fitting. Feels like it should be 30 minutes (maybe less) of labor and $10-$20 in parts? Am I missing something?

Any guidance on the parts I'd need to order (Amazon? Local plumbing supply? or are they specialty)?

Thanks in advance.

If you feel you can do the PVC repair then go for it.

Otherwise the $300 is reasonable for the time it takes a guy to get to your place, do the work, clean up, and get to the next job.

Thanks for the link. I am comfortable doing PVC work, just wanted to get guidance of more experienced people to save me a misstep. Namely, getting the right replacement valve. It doesnt look glued on.

Polaris uses quick connect fittings. That is the black fitting. The rest is glued.

where exactly is the leak?

If you look at the attached picture, the leak is in the PVC fitting that the polaris quick connect attaches to. There is red arrow trying to show the water spray captured in the photo. I'm guessing there is not enough PVC exposed on that side of the valve to attach a new coupler and go from there.

Look at the Polaris cleaner Installation Manual to learn how the quick connect fitting works.

Then disconnect the fitting and examine what is going on in the area of the leak.

If it is the female adapter that is broken/leaking, you will need to get a new valve (there's not enough PVC left after removing the broken piece), short piece of 3/4" PVC Schedule 40, a 3/4" coupler, a new 3/4" female adapter.
If you can get one, you can use a 3/4" PVC pipe extender instead of getting a new valve. Cut the old adapter off flush with the back end, install the extender, install a new adapter, use a bit of Teflon tape on the hose adapter and reinstall it.

Thanks for your recommendation. I like your proposal. Avoiding replacing the valve would be nice. Certainly make the project much easier. The part you showed, is it threaded on the "fatter" 3/4" side to allow for the polaris fitting to screw in? If so, do you have a name or link to the pictured piece?

No, it just extends the pipe back to the original dimension so the female adapter will be in the same location for the hose to reach. The adapter has to be glued to the extender. You will need both to do it that way.
