Is the pump improved in the Intex spa 28429EP compared to the Simple Spa? Did they fix the black flakes problem? I’m debating whether to buy the new one or do the clean out of the pump as some recommend.
Hello! Welcome to TFP
Do you know what those flakes are? I'm wondering if they're not biofilm from within the pipes and have nothing to do with the pump?
Have you ever used Ahh-some to clean out the plumbng from biofilm build up?

Black flakes are from the paint inside the heater wearing off. I don’t thing nothing has change on intex part. This is a common issue from everyone. Mine did it after a year of having my intex spa and I still have it after 10 years didn’t effect anything. Just was a pain to clean but putting a nylon stocking on the water outlet helped until it cleared up. One thing intex doesn’t tell you about your unit is that hardwater limescale builds up inside ruining your heater also. This needs to be clean periodically by descaling you spa just like any coffee maker. You can by a descaler or make your own you’ll find videos on YouTube or can purchase one on line made for your intex spa off Amazon. Running white distilled vinegar best with heater on for about 15-30 mins. It will save your heater from any further damage as limescale over time can be corrosive to metal.
