Chlorine Tab Feeder Question

Liquid Chlorine
Hey everyone. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the Nature2 Fusion System that was installed with the initial build. I no longer use the mineral system. I primarily use liquid chlorine, but the chlorine tab feeder system on the Nature2 Fusion does come in handy when we are out of town.

The manual says to only use trichlor tablets. The first year I had the pool that’s what I used but the CYA levels rose to over 100 by the end of the season and I had to partially drain the pool. I don’t want to do that again.

When I use the tablet feeder system, can I use chlorine tabs without the CYA instead of the trichlor tabs? I don’t know the reason why the manual says to only use trichlor. Since I primarily use liquid chlorine, the trichlor tabs wouldn’t raise CYA too much the few times we would need to use it, but I am still curious as to why the manual says you can only use trichlor.

Statement from the manual - see image

NO! NEVER combine pool chemicals, especially A) Different forms of chlorine and B) Chlorine and Muriatic Acid.

Manual says it all...

If you wish to use tabs without cya (cal hypo) they must have their own designated feeder that trichlor has never been in. They (in their dry forms) or Their residues must never touch or an explosion 💥 can occur as @PoolStored referred to.
Also, please understand that cal hypo adds calcium- this can only be reduced by replacing water. The fc gets consumed but the calcium remains & builds. Too much calcium causes scaling.
If you travel alot or find it hard to feed your pool manually You can replace your unit with a nature2 fusion soft swcg instead- it should drop right in place. You would want the 1400 cell. You would also remove the mineral cartridge.

Thanks for the information. I thought it meant don’t mix them together as in a bucket or something similar. I didn’t realize that you couldn’t even start using those tablets after the feeder was cleaned. I get it now. But I do have a spin off question.

I’m curious since you emphasized “dry” forms. If I put cal hypo tablets in a floater in a pool normally chlorinated with trichlor tabs or liquid chlorine while I went out of town, would that be ok? The SWCG is an option too but I’d like to learn as much about both options as I can.

On a side note, I put cal hypo shock directly in the pool sometimes when needed, but I primarily use liquid chlorine for day to day chlorination. I’m assuming that’s ok too?

I read another thread and answered my own questions. I learned that what I said above is ok as long as the chlorine types aren’t combined together before being diluted in the pool.

I tried to find the info in the threads beforehand but I wasn’t searching the right terms and couldn’t find what I was looking for.

Thank you for your help and pointing me in the right direction

I did not mention, nor emphasize "dry" form. Do not mix pool chemicals.

Yes, once they are in the pool for 15-30 minutes, the "Do not mix pool chemicals" no longer applies.

Particularly for chlorine and muriatic acid, they should be added 15 minutes or more apart.

Having been a LC jug lugger and now a SWCG owner, take my SWCG away and I fill in the pool. So much less work, and I go away for 2 weeks and come back to the same FC as when I left. I'd seriously entertain one, if I were you...

Perfectly fine. Cal-hypo adds calcium, tri-chlor adds CYA. Calcium can only be removed by replacing water. CYA degrades about 5-10 per month.

Thank you for the info. I was referring back to mdragger88 about the emphasis on “dry” not you. Thanks for the videos and thanks for clarifying because I was only thinking about the two types of dry chlorine (tabs) being combined and I never thought of adding liquid chlorine together with other dry forms but I can see how some may accidentally do that. So again, thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the other info also.

To switch from the Nature2 fusion (tab feeder) to the Nature2 fusion soft SWCG, is it as simple as replacing the unit and running the wires to the panel or is there more to it? Or, is it better to take it out completely and add a regular SWCG in its place? If that’s possible

I was trying to emphasize safety with storage (they should not be stored near each other) & safety with feeders - they must each have their own dedicated feeder that has never been used for another type of chlorine.

Yes - the units are the same size.
The cell is the same as the regular jandy swcg.
Do you already have automation? If so you would want a swcg that is the same brand.

That makes sense now. I appreciate the info. I’m glad to not have had any accidents. Thank you

Ok. I have the Hayward omnilogic panel. I’ll look into that. Thank you
We recommend a swcg rated for at least 2x’s your pool’s volume so a 40k gal rated t15 would be ideal for your pool in Louisiana.
Not sure what all you would need to add a t15 to your Omnilogic - so lets ring a couple guys who will know ☎️

Omnilogic panel has the SWG controls built in.

You just need to connect a Hayward T-15 cell to it and set the proper configuration.

Please put OmniLogic Automation in your Signature.
