I just took a sample of pool water to Leslie's, and this is and they came up with, with their preferred ranges in parentheses.

FAC 5.01 ppm (1-4)
Total Chlorine 5.01 (within 0.2 of FAC)
PH 7.6 (7.2 - 7.8)
Total Alkalinity 56 ppm (80-120)
Calcium Hardness 147 ppm (200-400)
CYA 44 ppm (50-100)
Iron 0 ppm (0 - 0.2)
Copper 0.3 ppm (0 - 0.2)
Phosphates 340 ppb (0 - 100)
Salt 2245 ppm (3000-4000)

So, first and foremost they said I gotta do 17 Oz No Metal around the edge of the pool and 1 Culator Powerpack in the skimmer,, which I've done both, but added probably 24oz No Metal by accident. In 24 hours, they said to bring another sample in to ensure the copper is coming down.

The second most important thing to do was to get the Phosphates down after getting the copper down. Then, of course, they've recommended Alkalinity Up, Hardness Plus, Conditioner, and salt. I bought everything at Lowe's (except the No-Phos which I guess I have to go back to Leslie's to get when I retest for copper tomorrow).

I say all this to say the pool has been looking great except some iron/copper looking stains on the pool floor but not a lot, and what looked like black/Grey staining on the whole pool floor but that went away on its own the past week after adding salt. Is all this recommended needed? And, does everyone's pool attract worms, salamanders, etc, or is that because it's unbalanced and creatures think it's the water they live in?

Thanks in advance!

Leslie gave you bad advice. Our advice is stay out of Leslie and do your own water testing.

I suggest you return everything you got, stop, and discuss with us your specific problems.

It's your choice TFP way or Leslies way.

For the TFP way it starts with getting your own test kit - Taylor K-2006C or TFT Test Kits - and doing your own testing.

Post pics of your pool showing the stains.

Do you know how the copper got into your pool water?

Thanks for the link. I'll look into it.

The copper is a little concerning, because we only put water from the hose which comes from our well in there. Guess it's time to test the well water again.

Do you have a heater?

Have you used any algaecides?

Copper is hidden in mineral systems and chlorine tablets.

I don't know why, but none of the links to articles on this site are working for me. They all go back to the main page.

I recently moved back into this house and am unsure of all that happened while we rented it out. There's no heater (anymore), but there's a chance who was taking care of the pool used chlorine tablets or mineral systems (unsure what this is).

The renters could have went into a Pool Store and was sold copper based products.

There's no heater (anymore),

Anymore? What heater was there?

If it was a gas heater the copper heat exchanger could have corroded and put copper into the pool water circulating through it.

There was a solar heater, but when it started leaking on the roof, we had it taken down years ago and removed all the piping going to it.
