I have a Hayward pro-logic Automation and my prior pump has died, so I am trying to pick the right new pump.
variable, or 2 speed and what horse power, Manufacturer ?
Comments please.

hayward Variable speed tri-star would be an exact match but $1,949!
a 2 speed could be used but for the $ difference I’d pay a bit more for the VS.

our in ground pool with connected spa is 15,000 gallons, salt cell, filter and heater No other water features.
the equipment is 60ft from the pool/spa with 2” pipe.
the wrinkle is that we have ALOT of solar power so I do 1.5 turnovers during sunlight and the pump is off at night, except when we use the hot Spa So electricity cost is zero.
I believe the usual utilities savings from a VS , multi interval filtering, doesn’t apply to us for cost savings.

thank you

Welcome to TFP.

You are limited by Federal and CA regulations as to what pumps can be sold in CA.

I think you will find the Hayward TriStar VS 950 is you best choice.

@1poolman1 operates in CA and knows what your choices are.

Not likely able to get a 2-speed in CA. Even DOE regs have virtually eliminated them nationwide.
Pro Logic will communicate directly with the TriStar VSP.
How many pumps in the system? Separate jet pump?

Hi, no other pumps in my system. Thank you both for the quick response .
I am in Palm Springs, any suggestions where I can go to buy & pickup a Tri-star VSP tomorrow, within 50 miles would be good!

Just saw your post. If you still need the pump, Leslie's Pool Supply has the Jacuzzi line which is a re-branded Hayward TriStar.
Thank you for that idea. I was able to get a Tri-star 950 2.7 hp today and I have plumbed and wired it to my Hayward/ Goldline Pro Logic panel.
one question maybe you can help me with. I think the 5 dip switches on the tri-star should all in OFF. Do you agree?

Have never changed from the way the pump comes from the factory, both as a stand-alone or with Hayward automation. DIP switches set pump address for multiple-pump installations.
