I have a Jandy Neverlube 3-port valve as a bypass for my heater (Raypak), and an Intellicenter (everything besides heater is Pentair). I want to add an actuator for the bypass, but I'm a little confused looking at the actuator options.

They all (Pentair, Jandy, generic) seem to claim universal application, though I've read conflicting recommendations (match the brand to the valve, which would be Jandy VS match the brand to the automation system, which would be Pentair).

Also, Pentair has their standard actuator and also the Intellivalve, which seems to have more levels of control (?), which shouldn't matter for the application which requires simple on/off?

Finally, I initially ordered a Pentair standard actuator, but was actually send a Tork generic actuator. The box said Pentair, but I found the Tork on Amazon for about half the price I paid for a Pentair (Amazon.com), so I sent it back. The Tork looked VERY similar to the photos of the Pentair, and the quality seemed OK for what seems like a pretty consumable product (lots of reviews suggest failures, regardless of brand)... I imagine they're all made in China anyway.

Anybody have a recommendation for the best option based on experience?

Thank you!
That Amazon bait-switch happened to me today. I found two Tork actuators instead of two Pentair ones that I ordered. Other reviews (or was that you) described a similar experience. Already filed for a return. Jandy actuators are about $40 more than Intermatic, so I am torn. I may just get the Jandy, as adjusting the cams (which I will need to do) seems much easier on the Jandy.

I got my two Jandy actuators from poolzoom this week, and installed them this morning. All went very well, including adjusting the cams on one. I now have a true cleaner circuit. I do have a programming question. I'd like to run the Spillway (returns) and the Cleaner (suction) at same time, since those need higher pump RPM. In Screenlogic app section for my Pump, if I have cleaner cycle going and then also select spillway, cleaner turns off. Can anyone offer up a solution? I put the cleaner on valve B, and the skimmer valve on Valve A as Aux Feature 8. Should I put Valve B (cleaner) on the spillway curcuit? If so, can I use the SLConfig app or do I have to use the EasyTouch control panel outside?

Also, would not it be better to have some suction from the skimmer when the dedicated cleaner line is being used, in case the cleaner climbs out of the water or the hose releases from the wall suction port so pump is not starved?

Thanks for any help you can provide. This site has been a God-send. The pic is the cleanercircuit.poolEq - 1 (1).png

Is the circuit type for the cleaner circuit GENERIC or CLEANER?

I set it to CLEANER.

Set it to GENERIC and see how things work.

The EasyTouch does not know if your cleaner is suction or pressure. It assumes you are using a pressure booster pump that should only operate when the filter pump is on and water is flowing to the returns. In SPILLWAY mode water is not flowing through the returns so the ET is doing the right thing to turn the cleaner off.

C,

You have a suction side cleaner so you should be using a circuit function of Generic...

The Spillway function moves the Intake and Return valves.. This by itself has nothing to do with Valves A and B..

When you go into the Spillway mode, the Intake valve move to suck all the water from the pool and the Return Valve moves to return all the water to the Spa.

As long as the valve that control the cleaner suction line is set like it is in your pic, the cleaner and spillway should both work at the same time.

Does the valve that controls the skimmer move just 90 degrees??

Does the valve that controls the Cleaner suction line, move 180 degrees?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks to both of you. I’ll do the change to Generic in the morning. I did change the skimmer valve to the master cleaner circuit, and now it turns full-off when cleaner is on.

Both of the valves can rotate 0-180 degrees. So main drain is completely off when cleaner on, and vice versa. I adjusted the skimmer acuator cam to only rotate to about 100 degrees to split intake for main drain and skimmer. I wanted 90 (an even split) so I was close enough. I am going to adjust lower cam to have the valve not close off the skimmer completely when cleaning. I am surprised of all the names in Easy Touch, there is no skimmer.

Update: Changing to Generic worked. Thanks! I did that for the cleaner valve. I still have the skimmer valve on Master Cleaner function on Feature 8. Should that one also be Generic? It turned the valve correctly when I enabled the Cleaner with the Spillway.

C,

You should never use any circuit function but Generic, unless it is actually needed...

A good example would your spillway function must be "Spillway" or it won't work.

Most things don't need a special circuit function.

Thanks,

Jim,

One more oddity. It seems that the cleaner, which is on a generic circuit type, can only have one schedule allocated to it. All I can program on the panel is an egg timer and one schedule. The SL and SL Config apps both can have multiple schedules programmed and listed, but the panel outside does not show a second schedule for the Cleaner, so only one gets run. The spillway curcuit has 4 incl egg timer.

Am I supposed to be limited to 2?

Greg,

Any Circuit can have multiple schedules.. Egg-timers are counted as schedules, unless set at the default of 12 hours.

You can only have a max of 12 schedules Total.. This incudes schedules, egg-timers and run once items.

ScreenLogic will allow you to enter a billion schedules, but only 12 will work. If you enter from the EasyTouch, it will tell you when you have too many..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim,

I removed the cleaner schedules in the app and re-entered the schedules. This morning, I check the panel and the 2 schedules and the egg timer were in the schedules for the cleaner. And the morning cleaner schedule was activated. woohoo!

Thanks for telling me it should work. It kept me trying. As a 40-years software engineer, it irks me when the apps and panel do not sync up, but it should not surprise me. The first time this happened was the date time setting, which was way off on the panel but showed up correctly in the app. Now, the system actually knows the day of the week and correct time.
