Hi Guys,

Getting a new error message here. "Chlorinator Off Sensor Fault" & "Cell Door Open." I haven't touched the thing.

To be quite frank, i'm stressed and busy with work so i'm about to call pinch a penny to come out and diagnose because I don't have time to be troubleshooting. But I wanted to come here first to see if it's an easy solve. Only troubleshooting I did was look at the wires (nothing out of the ordinary) and unplug/plug the SWG cell cable from the Goldline Remote board.

To be honest, we've had the pool/house for 2 1/2 years and I have never once cleaned the cell ( didn't even know that was a thing until recently). I don't know how old the unit is but i'm almost positive it's older than 2 1/2 years.

Other than that, water temp has been about 90F lately (according to the remote). The salt water is indicated at 3200-3300. My taylor test came out to 3600-3700 Saturday so not too far off.

Any idea?

Don't clean the cell unless the cell needs cleaning. Unnecessary cleaning only serves to shorten the life of the cell. Also - TFP recommends cleaning mechanically with popsicle sticks, water, etc rather than with acid. If Acid is necessary, start with 6% vinegar in a 10:1 solution.

What Goldline control panel do you have - Aquarite? Prologic? Aqualogic? Omnilogic?

You may have some fuses on the board you should check.

See if you have any fuses on the board.

Check the board for brunt components or solder points on the back of the board.

Pinch-A-Penny tech will tell you that you need a new board.

Consider upgrading to an OMNIPL system if you get a new board.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. I'll have to take a look tonight but more than likely I won't even know what i'm looking at lol. Regarding the board, the previous homeowner gave us the phone # of some guy to send the board to and he fixes them. Would that be in this instance? I know I have the # somewhere. An upgrade is more than likely out of the question at this time for budget reasons.

Ok, the box is 17 years old, so it might be a bad board or a bad connection.

Unplug the cell and check the connection on the cord and the board for any signs of damage.

Show the cell serial number when you get a chance so we can figure out how old it is.

It might be a bad cell.

Does it show a cell temperature in diagnostics?

I don't 100% remember but I don't think so. I scrolled through it a lot yesterday trying to figure out what was wrong. I remember scrolling through diagnostics and seeing "chlorinator off.." "Flow switch..flow" software version etc. But don't recall seeing Cell Temp. I will check that later today.

As requested, here a ton of pictures. I did not see anything that stood out to me on the board that would point to an issue but then again i have no idea what to look for.

After unplugging the cell cord, removing the board cover, and putting it back together, the error changed from “chlorinator off sensor fault” and “cell door open” to “chlorinator off low temperature.” The pool is above 90F so that makes no sense. I also found the cell temp in the diagnostics. See pics.

Ok well just a few minutes after my previous post above with pics all error messages have disappeared. But i havent seen it chlorinate yet so i am on standby trying to watch. Very odd and i dont believe the issue is actually resolved.

The cell is 6 years old and the plug connections on both sides look like they are corroded and in poor condition.

6 years is a typical life for a cell.

The receptacle plug can be replaced if you have the part number and some soldering skills.

Thank you, you (and the others) have been an immense help. I'll have to see if I can figure out the part number. FIL can likely solder it.

For now, it appears all the error messages disappeared and I did see the chlorinator working. Crossing my fingers that it works tomorrow as well. Nonetheless, I know i'm on borrowed time so I'd like to get working on resolving this sooner than later.
