How to get water clear

I don't let my husband have input on pool matters 😂😂 I tell him "if you wanna learn & handle it all the time then by all means".. he usually won't say a word after that lol

I can give you absolute proof it works as I went from lake to perfect in about 15 days.

That’s the point I have got with my husband. We are at slam level now and only dropping a few numbers every few hours. I bring it back to slam level right away, so maybe we will see improvement soon.

Proof: 15 days total from basically a lake to pool 😂😂

Day 3 of slamming. (Been working on it a lot longer, but didn’t understand slam) Last night at dark fc was 15) I accidentally got too high) cya is 30. This morning fc is 12. I think we are on the right track.

Good work so far. Just keep an eye on your husband... we have often times seen skeptical spouses buy algaecides, flocculants, etc., and add them to the pool to "help".
If they do that, we can help you fix the problem with your pool and also google good divorce lawyers :)

Also you are at the blue cloudy stage, which is a good thing but can be frustrating with a sand filter waiting for it to filter out all of the particles. Just be prepared for that and let the filter do its job.

At 9:00 pm
FC = 12.5
CC = .5

At 6:30am
FC=12
CC= .5

Water seems a little clearer but not much. Only had to add chlorine twice yesterday and only 1/4 a gallon.

Question: once slam is done….. do I go back to using the cartridge. We use the Frog Leap system.

You are in a good place passing OCLT. Congrats.

Small sand pumps will take the longest to clear the pool...you need the most patience now. Backwash when the filter pressure rises 25% from clean pressure.

RE: Frog leap...No, avoid it. Mineral systems add metals to the water, which may eventually build up to levels that can cause unsightly stains, without adding any significant benefits in the mean time. They add no sanitizer.

You should use liquid chlorine daily, or get a salt water chlorine generator.

The numbers above look good. Keep the FC up, but now you are waiting on your filter to do its job which can be frustratingly slow with a sand filter. Make sure you are keeping an eye on the pressure and backwashing as needed.

As for the silly frog thing, those are not recommended as the "minerals" are really copper and other heavy metals that can build up in your pool and cause staining and other problems over time.
It is one of the many gimmicky things with pools that help the pool store's pockets, but not much else. Chlorine is king and at proper levels will kill algae, bacteria, viruses, and all sorts of nasty things.

Pool owner patience! Maybe try a little de to help the sand filter clear the fine stuff

Thanks. Will hide all the frog inserts and tablets from the husband 👍
As far as keeping chlorine right, what level should I be on none slam?
Also going out of town in 10 days for a 6 day trip. Last year we would just add extra packets in frog and let it go. What should we do now?

Always follow this...Link-->FC/CYA Levels

If you can, find a neighbor that can add chlorine. See what you need to add for the 3 days before you leave and have them add that amount of chlorine.
If you can't find a neighbor, then take the pool to slam level and float some pucks.
Here are some threads on vacation strategies:

For vacation I take the pool to slam level & put pucks in a floater (tethered so it doesn’t get stuck somewhere or touch the liner).
Be sure to use 99% plain Trichlor pucks - none that have “blue” in the name. If you have a solar cover you can deploy that too to help prevent fc loss from the sun. We usually have someone stop by mid week to check on the pool, check the mail, water the garden.
If you can separate the “minerals” from the Trichlor portion of the frog stuff you have you may can use those in your dispenser for your vacation as I believe the chlorine part is 99% Trichlor. But it is not recommended that you use Trichlor for daily chlorination because the cya builds up very quickly. There are a couple variations of that system, not sure what you have.

I had gotten to the point I was barely having to add any chlorine during the day. Checked every 2 hours and only added every 6 and barely any. It was only dropping from a 12 to 11. Now today every 2 hours it’s down to a 7.
What could have changed?

Log a full set of test numbers again. You aren't keeping anything in poolmath?

Have you been keeping up with your brushing etc?
