2023 Bleach Prices

Do you use PoolMath app? There is a bleach calculator that standardizes the cost with varying % concentration.
So 12.5% at $9.40 is $0.588/oz and 10% at $5.47 is $0.427/oz. So WalMart is clearly cheaper.

You may want to run your FC at the high end of the range for your specific CYA. This will help offset the effects of the flowers falling in the pool. My guess you are running on the minimum FC requirements and anything additional such as the flowers will cause algae to grow. Please Review the chart for levels using liquid chlorine.
FC/CYA Levels
Yes I know how to calculate price with percentage, which is why I said I will be going to Walmart from now on. I have not been using the minimum free chlorine concentration as a matter of fact, but the pool literally gets blanketed with 2 inches of flowers a day during the 3 to 4 days that the Palo Verde trees drop their flowers. I’ve already done the shock the bloom is over and the pool is back to normal. I am very good with math, chemistry and handling my pool.

Get a Betta SE. I hear they are on sale right now for $399. You might have to empty it a couple of times a day, but its better than constantly skimming.

Hey, you were right about Walmart! The Walmart web site had been giving me Silicon Valley prices because of my VPN. The local store was $5.47.

It's too bad that they uncase them all -- I mean -- who buys one gallon? Gallon jugs don't exactly stack.

I thought the same thing when I bought some yesterday. I prefer them boxed so I can buy in bulk and stack them in the garage. $5.47 is pricey, but it’s an essential consumable so unavoidable. It’s the best price where I live (West Valley area). If anyone else in my area knows of a cheaper alternative liquid chlorine source, hit me up!
I’m just not ready to fork over the cost of a SWG at this time, but they do seem like a great alternative if you can afford it and are willing to pay.

Something to think about….

I just did a quick calculation for our 20k gal pool. Assuming $5.50 for a gallon of 10%, 3ppm FC daily consumption, and a 5 month season, I could buy an entire new SWCG system (assuming cost of $2000) every 4 years for the same price as using 10%.

They don't sell singles anymore. Pool store has (i think) 12.5% at 4 for $30 ($10 more than last year) and its now cheaper than the 81oz hdx bleach...

*sigh*

At least the pool store prices are so overboard they don't have to raise them as much to keep making profits.

Inflation- big businesses saying screw you because workers started getting pay increases. Love all the companies raising prices because of inflation and somehow also making record profits...
Ocean state job lots had 4 packs of 12.5% for $24!

Just picked up a 4 pack of 12.5% at BJs, used a coupon and got it for $23. Also went to Walmart to pick up a 4 lb stabilizer that the website said was in stock ... nope. They had pool chlorine 1 gallon for $5.(something). BTW BJs has 14 lbs of Clorox 100% stabilizer for $70, I paid $53 last year for 10lbs so prices were about the same.

That would be great. However our pricing over here for most things is typically double so it gives me pause. I don’t plan to DIY it and so can likely expect to pay probably $4-5000 which is what I was softly quoted about a year ago, though I only asked one company. I do hope to transition to SWCG someday for sure.

The purchase of a SWCG is simply buying all your future chlorine at today‘s prices. You lock in the cost for about 4-7 years (the difference is for those that use a SWCG 10 months a year vs those that use a SWCG 5 months a year). Also the current price of a SWCG includes purchasing the controller as well as the labor to install it however future cost is just the SWCG so the future price should also be lower.

After 11% rebate, 12.5% is 4.44/gal at Menards. It's the best price around the midwest. It's $4.25/gal at Blaines but they're always out of stock. Local pool store sells cases of four for $23.

Two (very long) years ago I paid $1.27/gal at Menards.

Woodman’s grocery sells 4-pk of 12.5% for 13.99. So they have it beat out. ;)

Walmart has been best for most areas at mid $5s. They have 10% pool essentials chlorinating liquid in the outdoor garden area. Lowes has the same brand, also outside but it's been in the $7s most areas.
Depends on your location. My Walmart stores them inside the store.

Just bought 12.5% at Woodman's grocery store in Buffalo Grove, Il. for 13.99/4

Menards currently "only" 3.99/gal after rebate and sale price.
Just bought a few cases of the 12.5% at Woodman's here in Green Bay WI for $12.99. I never even knew they sold it there. The sales sign in the store says their "regular price" is $14.99. The dates on the jugs are from late February, so not exactly the freshest stuff, but the price is really hard to beat at this point.
