salt cell reads low salt

My pentair salt cell's low salt light is on. Tested salt at pool store and it reads 3100. My chlorine is 3.5. Easy touch reads 0 salt as does screen logic. Replaced flow sensor and checked inside cell, all is good there, but did not help. This seemed to have started after we had a hard freeze for a few days in Dec. I did have my pool running 24hrs duing this time. The cell is 8 1/2 years old and past it's prime. But I am trying to avoid buying a new cell @ $1600. Seems more like a communication problem to me, as it is keeping chlorine. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hope

Hope,

What is the water temp? As the water temps gets colder the cell has a harder time measuring it.

Have you actually looked at the cell? Does it just have one solid red light? If so that is the cold water cut off light and that will cause you salt level to read zero

Is your "Cell light" flashing?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim, thanks for your response. Water temp is 58. Pool guy looked at cell and said it was fine. Cold water light is not on, low salt light is solid red. "cell light" is not on.

Thanks,

Hope

If you get it from an Authorized Pentair Online Reseller, it should have a 2 year warranty.

Verify with the seller that they are an Authorized Pentair Online Reseller.

Ecommerce (EC) products: Products purchased from an Authorized Pentair Online Reseller (products beginning with EC-) receive a one (1) year (parts only) warranty from the date of purchase. The exceptions are: IntelliChlor cells and IntelliFlo SVRS pumps which receive a two (2) year warranty. EC products are not eligible for the bundled three (3) year extended warranty.

How Do You Display IntelliChlor Cell Water Temperature?[edit]

Version 3.1 on adds the ability to determine system temperature. Pressing the “More” button after the display shows 1,000s of hours of usage, will show temperature as follows:[5]

LightsTemperature
No LEDsBelow 30F
40%36 to 45F
40% and 60%46 to 55F
60%56 to 65F
60% and 80%66 to 75F
80%76 to 85F
80 and 100%86 to 95F
100%96 to 99F
100% blinkingover 99F
All LEDs blinkingSensor bad
Press and hold the More button until the lights scroll and note which % light lights up. Then, immediately press the More button again and see which % lights light up.

Maybe disconnect the comm wires to do the test or just install a separate temperature sensor.

I suspect that the cell is not getting a good temperature reading and that is making the salinity read false low.
