Aftermarket replacement cell for Pentair

Anyone aware of these limitations? Is there a list of specific items that get the discount?

One month followup...

The replacement cell definitely makes more chlorine than my IC40 did. I used to run the IC40 (installed in 2016) 10 hours per day at 100% to hold my FC constant.

With this replacement cell, it's holding steady at 30% running 8 hours per day. I just hope it lasts as long. If I get 5 years out of it. I think I'll be quite satisfied.

Which generic did you end up going with? Intheswim or discountsaltpool?

The IC60 clone is not only available, but on sale for $725.

The IC40 clone is rated at 2.1 lbs / day instead of the OEM 1.4

The IC60 clone is rated at 3.1 lbs / day instead of the OEM 2.

DSP has been all but proven to overstate the outputs, but even if it's overhyped it's still likely at least as good as the Pentairs output. At less than half the price, I'd strongly consider it being able to buy 2 in the same timeframe if needed.

For what its worth I like my DSP SWG. They have a 7 year prorated warranty, which I have successfully used, and DSP is the only one that I know of that will warranty a DIY installation.

Thinking on taking the plunge on one of these units. My IC40 is going bad and going to replace it myself this time.
Would be getting the 60 model ($749), since apparently my pool guy was trying to save money. Unknowingly I have been using the IC40 on a 32k gallon pool.
Haven’t read about anyone on here that has gotten one and complained about it yet?

But for realz...I ordered the Apex P-60 from DSP a couple months back as a replacement for a dead Pentair IC40. I think I read this post when I was considering a generic cell and I thought it was worth rolling the dice on it. Especially for half price! After receiving it. I didn't get a run to installing it for a couple weeks, but once I did it seemed to be pretty much plug and Play with my Pentair Easy Touch Center. It utilized the same power supply from my control board, however, I knew going into it that it was not going to be automated. It was just kind of be turned on with the power to the board/ pump went on. For the first month or so the salt salad seemed to work great. My pool was staying chlorinated and especially clear; even after heavy usage during the summer. However, I've been especially frustrated over the past couple weeks with the performance of the unit because it will periodically just turn off and display a check cell light. I've contacted Apex and gotten their troubleshooting guide to reading the diagnostic screen and I'm not getting much from it. Their customer service seems to be helpful, but they're not really giving me much insight which I think they would have at this point. They recommended checking everything and cleaning the cell once again. So I'm doing that tonight putting it all back together and hoping it works. If not I'm going to consider trying to get my money back and just buying a Pentair brand salt cell. I'll post an update once everything's up and running again
