Hi all,

In some posts and other info on this site, some say that the Pureline SWG is made by C.F. Electronics Tech Life:

I'm unable to verify this claim nor am I able to find anything about why people believe this to be true. But in any case, has anyone ordered a SWG directly from this company or another on Alibaba/Aliexpress/etc?

They appear to be a fraction of the price of Pureline or Hayward, however what is listed may only be for the smallest cell. I am waiting for vendor to provide info. But if it is really 25% of the cost, I'm thinking about rolling the dice, especially if others have had success with direct orders.

Hi Rich, The parent company for this salt system is CF Electronics - Tech Life.

The manufacturers warranty is done directly with Inyo which is nice since you don't have to go through the manufacturer for warranty.

CF Electronics is one of the largest suppliers of salt systems in the USA and parts for this system will be around for quite some time, at least 10 years.

Alibaba is ok for trinkets & phone cases but it’s probably best to stick with a known vendor for equipment you depend on daily to keep your pool from becoming a swamp or possibly burning your house down.

Most of the stuff we buy comes from China anyway so if you do your research it can turn out OK. It isn't without risks, and it isn't as easy to return items or work out problems. But that's why I'm asking -- the alleged source of a decently reviewed product was posted, and if a bunch of people had ordered directly and were happy, then there might be little risk in following along.

In some other forums I follow, people spend many thousands of $$ on lithium batteries for RV's and yachts which is a far more dangerous product and far more $$ at risk too. It works out often enough. Not always, but a decent percent of the time. Sellers in China are like those in other marketplaces and want to keep a good reputation. (Well, as long as you deal with those who do.)

FWIW, however, I'm not having a terribly productive time communicating with the seller to put together an order.

25% of going rate? Red flag #1
Trouble communicating with seller before the sale? Red flag #2
I’ve read that there’s lots of counterfeit products sold on Alibaba/Aliexpress. Red flag #3

Too many red flags for me.

I love buying my RGB Pixels from a well known seller on AliExpress and it works out just fine. Lots of reviews and forum recommendations, so yeah, that's one I am ok with, but not sure I'd want to be the first, or even second one to try a new supplier from China on parts like a SWCG.

I concur with your assessment on #2, however I'm here asking if anyone has purchased one, not for advice on buying from Aliexpress or Alibaba. I'm fine on that, thanks.

For #3, The seller is not trying to sell a counterfeit product. They are not representing it to be any brand other than their own, and it is a brand others have mentioned here.

As for #1, the "going rate" -- I wasn't assuming the price posted was current or that it reflected the item I might ultimately need or want. It isn't an "add to shopping cart and checkout" type of experience so the seller was going to have to provide a final quote. Another page has SWG's that look similar at $350 for a single unit and it doesn't even say what size it is.

As I mentioned in my orig post, I simply noticed that the brand had been discussed so my interest was in finding out if anyone actually had experience. Had 20 people replied and said they were great, well that would have been data useful for a purchasing decision.

As I mentioned I frequent other forums where people are spending many thousands on solar equipment and batteries. If you do your research, do business with proven sellers (which is why I am asking here!), etc you can reduce the risk substantially. It's also best if you can deal directly with the manufacturer, which is often possible, rather than a reseller.

Here's how the research goes on one of these other sites:

Understood. 👍 Unfortunately, I don’t have first hand experience with that unit that may help.

I look forward to reading what you decide and how it works out. 🙂
