Our pump stopped working again. Last week it stopped all of a sudden when I was adding water to the pool. I had the hose in the skimmer basket. I checked the breaker box and nothing seemed wrong. The pool cover worked fine. I turned off the main electricity and back on, nothing for a while then all of a sudden the pump started again. Today, I turned it off so I could clean the filter and backwash it and it didn't turn back on.

Any suggestions of what might be the problem?

Your pump is 9½ years old and from the look of your timer you run the pump 24/7?

Is it possible that the pump was running dry while you were adding water to the pool? Was the pump making more noise afterwards or the same as before?

Is it possible that the pump was running dry while you were adding water to the pool? Was the pump making more noise afterwards or the same as before?

No it had plenty of water last week, I was just adding another inch or two cause I don't like it getting too low on the skimmer. And today, plenty of water, only turned it off to backwash. Yes, we run it 24/7 for the 4 months it's open.

We did drain and refill 50% a week ago and pump was off while we used a sump pump

Any signs of a leak around the pump? When you apply power is there any noise like a hum?

No signs of leak. When there is power to it, it is a bit noisy/hum has has been for years. Right now it's completely dead no sounds.

Is there anything I can do or use in the pool to keep the water circulating so it doesn't get bad? I'd hate for all my work SLAMing it last week to go to waste It was finally perfect

Considering the age of your pump, you should consider replacing your pump motor. Call Inyo Pools to determine the correct motor.

The Century 1.0 HP motor is an option and you will also need Pentair SuperFlo GoKit. Also see How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump.

Also consider replacing the single speed motor with a variable speed like the VGreen 165 which will save you money over the life of the new motor.

I'm assuming if we need the pump replaced we should have a professional/technician do it. My husband is handy but pretty busy at the moment. Any recommendations on the type of pump we should get?

With the time clock "ON," is there 120v at the two terminals in the wiring compartment (that's a 120v time clock)? If yes, its new motor time.

We have ordered a new motor from Inyopools
