Water chemistry ;
visual condition : crystal clear
FC : 3-5ppm
CC : 0
TA : 70
PH : 7.6-8.2 use muriatic acid to control
CYA : 40 ppm
CH : 300
Salt : SWG avg 3600, Taylor K166 4400
Temp : 90° F
LSI : .01
Phoshates : 0
Nitrates : ?
Cell : Cleaned 7/15/22 it wasn't dirty at all.
Overnight FC drop : 1 ppm

Pool Math App says @2 lb CL output in 24hrs(RJ45 plus spec), 60% Power for 5.75 hrs should raise the FC 2 ppm. It worked like this since the install May 2021 and this season until I had the issue. Now I'm running it @100% for 6 hrs to get a FC increase of 2 ppm. After talking with Circupool a few times and eliminating the water, I sent the cell to Circupool. They say the cell is perfect and that if there's a problem with anything, it's not the SWG. The Circupool control module never shows an error. Since I shipped the cell, I've gone back to chlorinating with liquid chlorinator, the same way I've done it since 2011 when we had the pool built. As always, the FC will drop 2 ppm every day and every day I add 44 oz of 10% liquid chlorinator to keep my FC levels between 3 and 5 ppm.

Question : If the 44 oz of NaCLO raises the FC 2 ppm day after day as expected, why doesn't the 5.75 hrs @ 60% SWG raise the FC 2ppm as expected?

Below is a recent discussion of my own when I had some doubts about the "advertised" production versus what to really expect. In short, Circupool & DSP really only concern themselves with ensuring the SWG is producing chlorine. They don't get into the weeds about expected gains like we do here or with the PoolMath APP. But I would expect that if you confirm no algae and increase your CYA a bit, your FC may hold much better.

Texas, I just read your whole thread and learned a lot. I apologize for posting this thread as it's clearly redundant. The only thing I don't understand is how my SWG production was within the claimed spec for May-October 2021 and March-June 2022. What changed? All I know is one day the pool was crystal clear and two days later I saw cloudy water and said WTF!! I was checking FC weekly and all was good until something changed. Sure, it's making CL but it's about 50% of last year. Obviously I'm not alone. After dealing with this since June, my patience has run out. I'll just run it at 100% and deal with my next move when it dies.

Also, if I'm losing 2 ppm FC a day, why would I change my CYA? Isn't a 2ppm loss in the normal range?

That happened to me this year which is why I ended-up making that thread. I'm curious, how did you confirm zero phosphates in post #1? Di you have your own phosphates tester?

Gotcha. Well then, nothing above in your chemistry would seem to clarify why the previous years your FC seemed to remain more stable than this year. Even with a low CYA previously, it's hard to know if there were any weather or local environmental factors that may have changed. I would still recommend doing an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test this weekend if you can. While you don't see anything obvious by eye, and your tests appears to be reasonable, we can only assume your water got sick this year and it's making your SWG work a bit harder. As you may have seen in my thread, my water looked good but the FC level was dropping to the point it looked like it was producing nothing. I did a couple things that helped, but it all started with making sure there was absolutely no heavy organics. Keep in mind that Circupool does their diagnostic testing in an ideal/sterile environment. Even if you seem to pass the OCLT, as a last resort you might consider taking the water to SLAM level for a day or two and see if that helps.

When this started last month, I ended up doing an extended SLAM (a couple weeks plus) for a few reasons but mainly because we kept getting huge rain events. It took a long time to finally pass the OCLT but it finally did. The water is good now. I still believe the sudden SWG reduction is what caused the organics and not the other way around like Circupool would have me believe.
