Hi!
My borates are testing very high on the Taylor test strips. Do the strips expire or go bad? The test is coming out at 100, which is the highest on the test, so who knows how high it might actually be if the strip is accurate? The house water is testing at 50. I have NO idea if house water should be testing at any or not. (We did add a water softener recently, but the pool was filled last year way before we added it. I dont know if that affects borates either).

I have had no issues with anything at all, I just ran the full battery of tests today and hadn't dipped a Borate in a while.

I added borates last year.. in June of 2021. I haven't added borates or borax or anything that should remotely be raising borates since then. I added enough that it should have raised my level to 40.. and it tested at 50, so I didnt add any more.
I dipped a borate strip when we opened the pool and it read at 75 at that point. My previous entry was August of last year with borates at 50.

We have a SWG and an autocover. The ONLY chemicals I have added myself this year was a sock of 28 ounces of CYA stuff. I have not raised or lowered the pH or had to adjust the TA or anything. We have added hose water, but I dont know if we have added any via the hose since we added the softener. Its been raining a lot, so we just let the rain refill it.

4.5 FC
0.0 CC
7.6 pH
70 TA
225 CH (I have fiberglass. I haven't worried about raising it any higher)
40 CYA (see note below)
3000 salt
100 Borates
87 degrees
-0.45 CSI

And for anyone checking my test logs.. I know my CYA is coming out low.. But I am pretty sure I just cannot read the dang test. I even bought the standard solution last year, and it didnt read right for me either. I assume my CYA is at least 10 higher then the results I get as that was how the standard worked out for me. My chlorine levels have been staying level with the SWG not being adjusted, so I am assuming I am ok there as long as that stays ok.
