Having a pool built and need advice

Yep. And now I suspect he's going to ignore my texts. Maybe even keep ignoring me until the slide arrives and then say "Oh it's here, too late to cancel".

Sigh.

I'm really at the end of my rope. I want to consider firing the guy but the contract and legal implications really worry me. I'll give this some time and see if I can get the slide issue worked out, but I'm nervous I'll have to go to extreme lengths.

You can figure this out. Take a deep breath, remember a waterslide is a first world problem. I have had to resort to going to my PB's office to get any kind of response, then following up in writing everything that was said.

PB ordered the TurboTwister and sent back the baby slide.

The owner coming out tomorrow with the masons to work on some tile & coping issues (I posted about these earlier, specifically the waterline tile). I imagine he's visiting in person just to try to limit the number of tiles that get replaced. Through this process he's tried to put arbitrary limits on the number of tiles / coping / pavers that get replaced (e.g. "I'll replace 10").

I think that's ridiculous, and he should just replace what I put tape on. But I also got the impression from others here that I'm being a bit too picky about the tile. How should I go about this issue if he's going to try to limit what gets replaced? I wanted the mason to be the judge of what should be replaced or not, not the owner. Several of the folks here have been through this, so I mostly just need some help on how to approach the negotiation aspect of this (should I be stubborn or give in to some degree).

Thanks as always!

OH YEAH!!! Please tell me you have it in writing!

As do I! There is a reason you marked them so they NEED to go! After all you have been through with him this is the LEAST he can do to try to make up for it!

Chin up, shoulders back, direct eye contact, no extra words. Just look at him and say "I want every tile marked with tape replaced." FULL STOP! Do not anything else. Just repeat "I want every tile marked with tape replaced." Do not discuss it with him or change your words. You will be very surprised in how effective this method is. People don't have a clue how to react when they can't get someone to argue with them. Most of the time after you have said the same phrase for the 3rd time they start backing up and giving in.

Have what in writing? The new slide? Not yet. I'm supposed to be getting a change order for it... I agreed to pay the price difference between the current slide & the TurboTwister (based on my research it should only be a few hundred bucks). But in general this guy gives me nothing in writing. But if the slide shows up and they install it... not sure what more he can do after that point.

Thanks for the words of confidence!

Since my equipment has been installed, I was curious to start doing the wifi setup. It's an AquaLink. I managed to connect it to my wifi network. However, in the AquaLink dashboard I can't add my unit via the "Add Location" page. After some googling, I saw hints that the aqua link can't be added to my account via its serial number when the unit is in Service Mode. Obviously I don't want to screw around with that without water in my pool yet, I just wanted to see what I could reasonably accomplish in advance of pool start up.

Is it true that the AquaLink device can't be registered to my account when it is in service mode? Or am I missing something?

Unsure about that part. Did you so a search to see if there is a thread about it yet?
I did look, I didn't see anything specific to the issue I'm having. Normally I'd start another thread to ask about this but I know you've already had to clean up after me and merge my other posts here. Don't want to make more work for you.

In general, should I ask anything & everything here? Or do the moderators prefer separate threads to match the appropriate topic forums?

That is likely correct.

If you have no water in your pool you should not be fooling with the iAqualink.

If it's related to the build at all, it's something that others may encounter in theirs as well and should be here IMO, including, but not limited to, all construction, equipment, hardscapes, startup, getting to learn your pool/systems, any hiccups that arose after.

I always suggest updating the title at each stage. 'Having pool built -need pump schedule help', for example. You'll get all of us who have been following and attract anyone who knows XYZ who may have otherwise missed it.

The continuity is invaluable to others thinking of following in your footsteps.

Still no slide after all this time... I'm told this slide is on back order and should be here 9/6. We're now 10 months in on this project since excavation began. Worst company ever.

Thoughts floated around in my mind of just firing them since all that is left really is a slide and plaster. I have a little under $50k I haven't paid him yet. But I'm guessing that's a legal nightmare and would be worse than just waiting for this guy to get his **** together.

I ordered a diving board June 12th, finally on July 25th they gave me estimate of Sep 13th delivery. As of last week, manufacturer says this slide has a 5 week lead time. Apparently, had I waited 2 months to order my diving board, I would have received it faster. I don't think we can try to understand the backorders/wait/delivery times of manufacturers.

I'd think with $50k on the line the PB would want to get you finished and get paid, but I've given up trying to understand what motivates PB's these days. Hope you get things wrapped up shortly after 9/6.
