Pentair 4060 bad leak at clamp o ring

Ok…so my filter is leaking bad at clamp o-ring (invent even run the filter it’s so bad) It’s really weird. I ordered a new o-ring, but in the past, when you put the top on, it more or less rests on the o-ring. Then you clamp down on it. Not so now. It’s like the filter got bigger (impossible) or the o-ring is too skinny. When I put the top on, the two filter halves completely touch. It’s like the o ring isn’t fat enough to cause a seal. I’ve had this filter for over 10 years. This is a first. I’m completely stumped. I’ve looked at all 3 o rings (I have the old ones) and they more or less look the same. What in the actual F…

Has anyone experienced this?

I haven't myself, no, but here's a couple questions to kick things off.

Is it leaking evenly around the joint, or more so in one place than another?

Was the new o-ring in original packaging?

Just a couple things I can think of... clean mating surfaces, plenty of lube on the o-ring, and tap lightly around the circumference with a mallet as you're tightening the clamp.

It leaks mainly on the same side, but also a little in other places like right by the clamp bolt. Also…I turned the lid around 180 and it still leaks primarily from the same spot. And I can crank the band clamp all the way closed to there the nut doesn’t turn anymore. It’s like the clamp stretched (which Pentair says really doesn’t happen. I guess I can try lubing it more heavily, but I don’t see that impacting the band clamp literally running out of tightening ability.
