I wasn’t sure where this fit into the forum. If I should post elsewhere, let me know.
We just moved to this house with the pool. There is a group of black vultures that have been living here for years. The previous owners didn‘t really use the pool so they weren’t worried about them. The vultures like to drink out of the pool and they roost on the deck above the pool and poop on it and on the concrete. I’m worried about sanitation and stains.
Does anyone have a tried and true method for discouraging them from hanging out so close to the house? They are not afraid of us, the dog, or the children. If we try and run them off, they just hop a few feet away and look at us. They really like to sit on top of the roof and watch the kids swim. At times there are up to 8 of them.D8B4A1A5-5297-40EA-8D9E-CC62B53FA2AD.jpeg

They get comfortable with chaos and don't scare easily. If you see them on the road, they barely move for cars passing close. You can try taking a high pressure water nozzle to them every time they congregate. Fireworks. Whatever. Personally, if no one to see me, I'd take a hoe to them! If they find they start to have to share space with dogs or kids and they didn't previously, they can be viscous. So get rid of them whatever it takes.

Edit to add: Vicious not viscous :)

My google tells me they are a protected species. I might delete this post and pow pow.

They will walk right up to the 2 year old and hop around him. It terrifies me.

Oh no, that's crazy. I think you're right. They were spoiled before.

I'm out in the country, so no one would care if my 12 GA accidentally went off. :) But if you wanted to pursue other channels, maybe call animal control for your city/county. See if they have any recommended methods that don't involve gunpowder. :)

Bird Control Products - Pest Control from Flock Free has visual, olfactory and shock deterrents. Maybe the best if the effigy.
