Startup plaster and chemicals

Yes, skimmers should be encased in gunite and be part of the pool shell.

what issues may arise if they aren’t encased?
The pool and deck are two independent structures and need to be able to move independently.

The skimmer should be solidly attached tot he pool and move with the pool.

Otherwise the skimmer can separate from the opening in the pool, or develop cracks, or leaks around the skimmer mouth.

Ah gotcha. I dug up a pic from pre gunite of the same skimmer. Looks like the skimmer is encased a little over 1’ of the 2’ depth. Leave it be and press PB elsewhere..?

Also uncovered today during a pressure test that a second spa jet is leaking within the Gunite shell. The first was repaired previously by breaking up the gunite and replacing with hydraulic cement..

The skimmer is surrounded by the rebar to make it part of the pool shell. The PB should fill the void around the skimmer with cement up to the bond beam level.

I sent the request to PB. Thanks!

PB also put extensions on top the skimmers today so each will be flush with the decking. I assumed this is normal but figured I throw it on here in case I’m missing something.

That is a normal adjustment.

Not surprised but the PB isn’t entertaining a change to the skimmer encasement.

Pavers going in today. Final grading is not included in the contract, so trying to understand possibilities for the backside of the pool (which will have a fence shortly after pavers). Pavers are planned to extend 4’ wide on the backside.

Would there be any concerns with mounting the fence (already in contract) to the belgard pavers?

Fence posts need to be mounted securely in the ground. Pavers need to be cut around the fence posts.

Depends on the fence. Is it just the mesh removeable fence? Or a full size solid mounted fence with posts? And do you plan on a retaining wall on the back side? Is there anything to keep the base in under the pavers?

Fence will be black aluminum Canterbury style. Not sure what the primes plan is for holding that base in place over time. Currently nothing appears in place to hold it. The sub even provided a proposal for a retaining wall earlier today, which is about 10% of the full contract cost:oops::oops:

My builder also did not plan on any shoring up on the hill they created when they put the pool in. They didn't even grade it. And, it ended up failing final county inspection because the hill was not completed and was at risk for erosion. I called my builder who refused to do anything so I hired my own contractor for $3500 to bring in 20 yards of dirt to level it out, grade it, and plant grass. I then sued the builder for that $3500 but they managed to evade service and I never followed up. Life goes on.

You are probably gonna need some sort of retaining wall, or at minimum grading/ compacting dirt to slope away from the back side. And as far as your fence, it sounds like your gonna need post footers under or through your pavers to mount that fence.

FYI I kept pressing this and a sub finally repaired with hydraulic cement day before laying pavers… probably because I dug out the fill stone and reminded the PB it would cause decking repairs if ignored.
