This is how to buy salt

Nope. 100% and/or pure must be on the bag. Some brands have iron in their 'other ingredients'

Does it matter what brand? We have Diamond Crystal 40 lbs bag at HD. I dont have SWG system yet . Just doing research for preparation of owning one 😀
They have a couple types, one is for water softeners and a little cheaper but wasn’t showing up online. I am in Georgia so may not be a big demand for water softener salt.
I like Morton from Walmart when they have it, just hard to put more then 4 in a buggie and roll it around :)
Just avoid Clorox salt, lots of folks have had iron stains from it.

dumb question, is this many bags for pool startup, or to use throughout the year to maintain the salt level? This is my first year with a SWG, I only bought one spare bag for the year, should I get more??
I had to add 80 lbs 3 weeks after start-up and we haven't had any rain...guess I splash out a lot when I'm swimming my laps! I am trying to keep my salt level as low as possible to minimize the salt taste so I will probably have to throw a bag in every few weeks...but we'll see, I've only had a salt pool for a month so far.

Your in Tampa so may not matter but water temp seems to impact salt numbers. I take a sample inside and let it warm up some before testing.
Just be careful the test chemicals will stain counter tops, I learned that the hard way.

Salt is salt as long as it doesn’t have any water softener cleaning agents in it, look for “pure and natural” type labels. I use Morton’s blue bag crystals, cost me less than $50 for 8 bags

Speaking of water softeners, I have this pipe dream... literally. It's an actual pipe dream. Hear me out!

Pool salt is pretty easy for me to unload: from the driveway, through the gate to the yard, and into the pool. I can use a dolly if I'm buying a lot. But the water softener is in the basement and it's a royal pain to get there from the garage. Steps up to the house, long walk, winding staircase down, more walking. I hate dealing with the softener. I usually end up buying 6 or 8 bags at a time, unloading them from the car into the garage, and leaving them there until the softener runs out. Getting them to the basement is such a chore that I put it off as long as possible.

So here's the dream: run a nice 2" or 3" pipe from the water softener, across the basement, and up into the garage. Cover the opening with a hatch, like a laundry chute. Have the basement side come down so it pours into the softener tank. Dump salt from the back of the car directly into the chute and let gravity take it down to the basement and into the softener.

What do you think, crazy idea? Honestly of all my crazy ideas, this one seems downright reasonable...

GREAT idea, but it needs some R&D before final assembly. I'd get a pipe and see what pitch it will freely flow at. Salt crystals are generally square-ish and wont roll like marbles would.

Not such a crazy idea. Granular/powdered items like flour, sugar, plastic pellets, etc are often unloaded from tank trucks pneumatically. And as for salt . . .

Pneumatic Salt Delivery System

Never carry a bag of salt again!

Our salt delivery system works like this:

We install 2" PVC pipe from the top of your brine tank to the outside of your home or building. On top of the brine tank is a perforated funnel that controls air flow for the salt to be blown into the brine tank pneumatically.
