TF-100 purchase

Testing doesn't happen in a closed bottle, it happens in an open test tube. Swirling while dropping is absolutely possible but if you're in TFP you're going to save enough on everything else that many people here treat themselves to the speedstir. It's available on Amazon cheaper.

To your actual question, you'll run out of 0871 first (for the chlorine test).

Or get an extra test tube and a plastic spoon.

Weird. I’ve always run out of 870 first. Perhaps that’s because I do a lot of hot tub testing in the winter where the FC may be lower than normal if you’re testing a pool. Or I’m using too much.

Totally agree, SpeedStir is great for testing.

I will recommend the TF-100 Pro, though I understand you’re looking at $160 with the XL option and that seems like quite a lot when you find TFP. But I started with the Taylor K-2006 and the SpeedStir. Got some refills. Eventually upgraded to the TF-100 Pro cause I wanted the nice case. Would have saved money by going for that right off the bat (though to be fair it wasn’t available at that point).

Remember that the higher price of the Pro is essentially a one time deal, a complete reagent refill for the Pro is $52 and a complete refill for the regular is $50.

Keep in mind with pricing that here in the Midwest I spend ~$12 a week in chemicals on my 15,000 above ground pool during the peak of summer, and less than that leading up to and after the peak. That’s ~2 gallons of 12.5% and up to a gallon of acid, both of which are $4/gallon here. I see posts of people who used pool store advice spending WAY more than that and still having water issues. TFP works, and in the grand scheme of things a good test kit is a very small price that will save lots of money and frustration.

Here’s my pool:

Oh, and welcome to TFP!
