I have the 48 sqft model and this past weekend I gave it the bi-annual teardown and cleaning (I never backwash it- just take it apart and fully clean early spring and late summer).
The re-assembly section of the manual specifies to torque the clamp nut/bolt to 150 ft lbs and to "NOT HIT OR STRIKE CLAMP WITH HAMMER OR METAL TOOLS." I have done this teardown a few times now, and can absolutely testify that you CANNOT seal this thing just by tightening the bolt to the required torque, so I have been using a rubber mallet to encourage a good seal, then tightening to 150 ft lbs. I had to do similar things with the previous American Titan stainless housing, so I feel like the required mallet/hammer taps are not unusual.
Anyone have a different experience? I don't like hitting things when the literature says (more or less) to NOT hit things, but there is no way this thing seals with just a wrench!
