Ignoring Pool When it's Closed

I am posting to eat my words. I was saying you don't need a lot of Chlorine and can ignore it all winter...Well that worked until Mother nature dumped more yellow pollen and pollen worms then then I have ever seen..Still my FC was 3 so no worries right?? WRONG now I have a green swamp and have to start a SLAM :(
I have never seen so much pollen, my filter was almost completely clogged and washing it was crazy, looked like mustard running off..

Now, you very well may have 2 problems, but pollen itself is usually a filtering only problem. It takes a couple of weeks (2-3) to get it all if it’s heavy enough. Or you *also* have an algae problem ta boot.

You know the drill. Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

My filters got this bad with pollen and zero algae. E1665A52-66FB-4051-8CD8-15F8CD330E69.jpeg3245C38B-8602-4390-8260-E14B2419C981.jpeg56CA7F35-ED62-4897-A590-F5296E1887EF.jpeg

I’m feeling left out. For winter I dialed my SWG down some, and ran the auto cleaner about once a week.

I check on the water level when needed but otherwise I do nothing at all, and have always opened up (late April) to a crystal clear pool. Wife does a thorough manual vacuuming to waste, then I switch to filter, bring FC to shock level, and wait for the sun to do it's job so we can swim.

Pool opened in Chicago first week of April. Used a mesh cover in winter. Was nicer than trying to manage with an autocover. Took one day to get perfect water! Been swimming every day.
