dodged a $700 bullet...

So my ic40 cell just flaked out on me right as the weather is getting warm here in AL. It started giving me the red flow light yesterday. After testing out jumpering the red/black wire on the flow sensor with no luck, I figure it's time for a replacement a year or so earlier than I had hoped. Luckily I'm about 1-2 months from my 3 year warranty being out from install, so I'll just wait a couple weeks for the builder to take care of it. I guess I'll be back to buying bleach for a bit till then...
I've been searching around, but has anyone found a decent generic replacement that works with the easytouch automation yet? I know the warranties on what I saw looked sketchy for what you save, and had this been on down the road it would have bitten me. It just didn't look like it would be worth the chance....or am I wrong?

Most of the generics have either smaller plates or less coating on them. They are usually rated in the 3k-5k hours of expected lifespan. I was shocked last year to see the common generics being sold at HD, wondering how many people would be fooled into thinking they were apples to apples.

If you don’t mind replacing them more often, they still work. Just go in with your eyes open.

There are none that work with the ET.
You jump the red black wire going to the cell from the flow switch to test if the flow switch is bad.

N,

An IC40 should last 4 to 7 years, less than three years is odd..

Tell me how you connected the red and black wires.. Did you connect the red and black wires coming from the cell or the ones coming from the flow switch assy???

I like the idea of letting the pool builder fix it under warranty.. :thumleft:

The cell is about the only thing that you can DIY replace and still get the standard 2 year cell warranty.. You don't need that now, but keep in mind after your current warranty is over.

Thanks,

Jim R.
