New to the forum (and pools for that matter) and have been lurking around for the past few months... I have learned a lot already

I just moved into a home that had a pool that was left closed for the past 2 years. From what I understand the people we purchased the home had to move a few hours away for work and used it as a weekend home until they sold it. During the inspection period, I did have a pool contractor "inspect" the pool and he said that the equipment was in good running shape the pool itself was rough and would probably need repaint/replastering... since the pool was not clear he would not provide any details of the pool because it was green. We purchased the house knowing the pool would be a problem and need some level of renovation.

Additional info not in my signature:
  1. The pool is currently "winterized" and not operational
  2. We live on the side of a mountain so the pool concrete is exposed about 2 ft on one side and 6 ft on the other
  3. From what I understand the pool was painted 5 or so years ago with Inslx CR 2624
  4. The SWG appears to be about 10 years old based on the SN (have not been able to test it yet but my guess would need to be replaced)
Current Tests:
  • FC=0
  • PH=7.5
  • TA=30
  • CH=0
  • CYA=0
  • CC=NA
  • Salt= low to nonexistent
With that said.... would anyone be able to provide some advice if I could/should open the pool this year and delay any renovations until next season? I would like to get some time with the pool open to see what all the problems are before throwing in the towel too early. I also want to see if the family actually uses it. I have attached some recent pictures.

Welcome to TFP.

Show us pics of your equipment pad and equipment.

The good news is that it looks like your pool holds water and there are no leaks in the shell. The water can be cleaned up with a lot of chlorine and the SLAM Process

If your equipment looks good I would open the pool and see how the equipment runs. Right now is a terrible time to try and get new equipment with all the demand to replace pool equipment from the Texas freeze. So if you have a major equipment problem you may be stuck for a while. But then you may get lucky.

I did see the pool filled with the equipment running...
- the SWG T-15 probably needs to be replaced.
- Wiring could use a refresh
- Tidying up the pipes would be nice
- pump motor looks to have been replaced reciently.

I hope you are short to work under the deck.

If all you need is a new T-15 cell then you are good to go. See how the pool works for you this season.

Those patches are probably repairs or patches in the plaster. If you don't mind a little ugly, you can clean up the pool with a slam, and see how you like having the pool before deciding how much renovation you want to do.
