All you see is bottles of NO PHOS etc etc. what is this stuff? They have more snake oil on the shelves than actually useful stuff

Went in because I will be filling my pool with water soon( being remodeled). Needed some metal free and conditioner plus some muriatic acid ( theirs is twice as strong as Home Depot’s )

8 lbs dry conditioner for $49.99, did I get burned? Also I needed a part for my filter , they wanted $50 but Amazon has it for $25.

I don’t mind supporting local brick and mortar stores but they are way expensive

I pay about $24 for 8 lbs for dry stabilizer at my local pool store.

I don't set foot in a Leslie’s.

Knew I got ripped, oh well live and learn. I can see that company going bankrupt soon, too many online and big box options for pool stuff now

Look for an independent pool store in your area that carries HASA 12.5 % chlorine bleach and 31.45% MA in refillable containers. Price is usually better than the big box stores and much much better than L's.

Good advice will look, why does HD only offer 14% MA? I assume it’s because it’s a lot less dangerous for them?

Main reason I have been going to Leslies is for the stronger MA

I've never shopped around. I paid $17 for 7lbs on Amazon Prime, tax but no shipping.

I can see that company going bankrupt soon,
Well, yes, if we had our way. But unfortunately there will always be folks that resist our assimilation and continue to trust the pool store. They don't know what they don't know, so they can't order online, because they need the store to tell them what is wrong with their pool. Ironic that they don't realize what is wrong with their pool is the store! Maybe someday they will all be ours!

Welcome to TFP! Yep Leslie's and other pool stores can be the most expensive place to find pool chemicals you'll need. And even more expensive are other pool chemicals they sell that you never need like phosphate removers. If you haven't already done so please read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and ask any questions you may have. We use dirt cheap generic chemicals that are identical to the expensive "brand name" you can get at pool stores. We also sell nothing. Just volunteer pool experts and enthusiasts here to help you learn TFP methods and advise with anything pool related. Our advice is never conflicted. Just the straight scoop.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks, yes I have been reading now for a few weeks. Learning a lot and I appreciate everyone’s generosity with their knowledge.

Main reason I went in there was for a part for my pentair filter and the metal free chemical, ended up ordering the part on Amazon because they were DOUBLE the price and the girl behind the counter knew it too when I told her.

Never going back, I will source my stuff via this website from now on

I use Leslies. They have the 31% acid I use, cheaper than Lowes next door, which only sells the 14% stuff. And their chlorine prices are also comparable, and it's freshest there, and they store it indoors. So I support them, because I don't want to see them go away. I like the free water sample containers they hand out. I let them sample my water once is a while. In exchange they send me store coupons for 5% off every once in a while. Seems fair. And they know me now, so they stopped trying to sell me stuff. They serve a purpose...

I usually buy my stabilizer @ walmart for a little less than $15 for 4#’s. They will ship it to my house if i want. Our Home Depot & lowes sells the 31% muriatic acid - usually in a 2 pack for $13. Must be a California thing w/ the weaker acid?
I went into Leslie’s once for a plug & inquired about regeants while i was there- i got a confused look. Also they had never heard of the one i was looking for. Apparently no one in my area tests their own water.
They are my last resort for sure.
Ours also doesn’t carry liquid chlorine.

You can get 25lbs of CYA on ebay for $60 shipped. I have been using the below for years.

I have managed to not step foot in Leslies, but am heading there for some pool lube in a bit since Amazon just delayed my order.

Maybe I should grab a big chuck of ice from my pool and see if they will do a free sample on it :)

Thanks! What do I want? I had ordered Magic Lube blue bottle that says it contains Teflon. I was going to use it to lube my o-rings for my plugs when I decide to put everything back together. Previously I was using pool o-ring lube in individual packets from either lowes or home depot.
