Pool Color help Stonescapes Tahoe Blue Mixed

Hi everyone,

We are getting our pool plastered on Wednesday and still struggling a bit with the color. We were planning Stonescapes Tahoe Blend small Puerto Rico, but looking at different posts it seems a bit light and green so we talked to our PB and they offered to change it up to make it a little darker and less green. Typical Tahoe Blue has 10 bags gold (green) to 2 bags black, so they are going to do a half and half blend...6 gold/6 black...has anyone else done this? Would love to see pictures as with the pandemic we have not been able to see any pools in person, so the online pictures have us confused.

What about the French Grey instead? It would scare me to get a formula that I’ve never seen before.

I did something similar. I had Tahoe Blue plaster originally, and I loved the color, but wanted it a bit darker. Unfortunately, I didn't think to ask about the formula, but I loved the darker version. Looking at pictures of someone else's pool on the internet is not particularly reliable, as there are soooooo many variables (my camera, your monitor, my pool and surrounding deck and yard, etc). And the color looks different every hour, every day, every month. But here you go, kind of an averaging. You can see how the reflection of my tan house or my trees in the water turns it green. You kinda have to look around the reflections, if that makes sense.

Your pool looks beautiful! I would be very happy if mine comes out like this. Too bad you don’t what formula was used.

French grey is pretty, but much lighter than we want!

Thanks. Yah, sorry about that. There's no way I can get it for you now. I was going back and forth on the color quite a bit, because like you (I think) it was a bit daunting OKing a color I couldn't actually see! Finally, the woman I was working with at the plaster company said "I know what you want." and that was the end of it. At some point you might have to just trust your plasterer to know his business. Telling him "give me a slightly darker, slightly less green Tahoe Blue" might be the best you can do... especially with a custom color...

Tahoe Blue is a very common color because it's an amazing color. A slightly darker version of it (IMO) is only going to look that much more amazing. I liked the "aqua" nature of that color, because I traveled a lot and swam/dove in a lot of oceans and seas. So that aqua reminds me of ocean water and my adventures. A hint of green, but not too green. That natural, organic color aligns with the natural, organic colors of my edge stones and coping and deck. That spoke to me. Trust your gut and have your contractor align your version of "Tahoe Blue" with your tastes.

For what it's worth, don't drive yourself crazy. No matter what color you think you want, and what color you end up with, those two will not always be the same. As I mentioned, the color of a pool varies throughout the day, throughout the year. It'll change with the weather. It'll change depending on where in your yard you're viewing it (whatever happens to be reflecting off the water at the time). And, of course, it'll change with the depth of your water (one end of your pool will be different from the other), and the steps and benches are going to look greyer no matter what. That is just the nature of pool water. Embrace it. Embrace all the colors you're going to get. Some will be your favorites, and the rest will be just fine, too.

We were in the same boat as you. Liked Tahoe, but concerned about the green hue. We went with Stonescapes Tropics Blue. We are very happy with it.

Modified French Grey. Took out a bag of grey rock and added an extra black bag. Also put more black pigment and added glass.

@dianehaynes6, have you read here yet about the trick to use your water meter to determine the water volume of your pool? Filling a pool from 100% empty might only happen once while you own it, so this is the time to use the trick...
