*Updated - Gunite before rebar/parts delay

*UPDATE: As suggested from the wise folks on this forum - the flashing was a thin layer of Gunite to protect the dig from the weather. But my construction is now on hold because the PB says the spa jets are on backorder. I was told there is a national shortage - so we are patiently waiting on parts to continue.

So excavatoon happened a few days ago and I thought that the placing of rebar was the next step (from watching you tube videos). But today a Gunite truck showed up. When I asked about the rebar I was told that the Gunite can go down first and that they intended to “flash” it. Is this true? I called my PB and he said that the crew needed to wait for the metal crew. When I got off the phone however - they had already “flashed“ it with Gunite. Is this a problem or concern?

If they have concerns about the dig falling in, they can put a thin layer of gunite in just to hold the soil in place. They will then add the rebar like normal, then come back and do the real gunite pour that has the appropriate thickness.

I own a Gunite company flashing is completely normal if you're worried about weather builder is just doing you a favor cost us more money to flash a pool then show up a 2nd time to actually shoot it be thankful they are offering to do so most builders would just let it cave in then change order you to have to dig it back out again

Sorry -- I had to disappear to handle some last minute holiday preparations!

So I was told by the pool builder they did the Flash for some bad weather we had coming in the area. We had a few days of rain and just as someone said above -- they did it to protect the dig. And it worked as we had no cave in of the dig work they had done.

You are so right - he did not charge me at all and now that I have been educated on the process we are more than thankful.

They did stop by before Christmas and placed the rebar/steel and they started the plumbing as well. I am at a stand still because I was told there is a shortage of spa jets and they cannot continue or go any further until they come in. So right now I just have a big hole with rebar in the ground.
