Wet edge finish issues, recently completed

Hello All,
Any unbiased help would be appreciated! Our pool has been finished for about 30 days. We’ve had the applicator and wet edge rep out and both are claiming that what we have all over our pool is random “pebbles”. They don’t seem to be pebbles to me. They are chalky and round white spots all over. Please help!!!!

Wow, this is amazing timing. I had Blue Ocean installed last week. Pool was filled last Wednesday. I just finished taking pictures of the same exact white specs in my pool. My first guess was they did not clean out equipment good from the previous application and I had a few white pebbles mixed in. They are smooth to touch, same as the plaster(Primera Stone), brushing does not change them so i don't think its scale.

If all else is good I would not be complaining about the white spots. Nothing can be done now to change it.

Heres mine. I'm going to let the pool builder and plaster installer know about it. I don't expect and don't want them to try and fix it, but I think they need the feedback. I also want it documented in case they try to blame it on me or chemistry in the future. I also have what looks like a piece of paper or maybe part of a bag that the mix came in embedded in my plaster. Brushing does nothing to it, but its definitely some type of paper material. I do want them to take a look at it. I don't want it to break down and compromise the plaster around it. It's the picture with my toe in it.

Do you think some of those white spots are abalone? I'll agree though, some of the areas are plastering mistakes. Especially that section where the pebbles are missing completely. Hope you get this resolved.

Wow! It looks just like my finish! At least yours is blue...my finish looks more green.

I would have a problem with overlooking an issue like that, but not sure what can be done to correct it

I think the finish coming from Chile is a bad mix. I had someone look at it that is really familiar with all their finishes and that was his opinion. I'm wondering if there is a way to have it tested.

HAHA, that footnote was not there in June, July and August when we were trying to decide on a primera stone plaster color. I guess they had enough people complain. Wet edge changed the names of some of the colors on their products over the summer. I assumed it was because these pebbles are being minded and maybe the color at the quarry/beach where they get them changed.

They white spots are not a big deal to me, its really less than 20 white pebbles in my 26K gallon pool. Its just that those 10 stick out so obviously. They are also not consistent through out. They are concentrated in 2 or 3 areas for me.

I think choosing wet edge or pebble tec is kinda like choosing ford vs chevy. Both are great products, your decision should be based on service before and after installation. Id go with whichever the PB has more experience installing and is willing to stand behind for warranty work.

Good advice NCMike. Our PB has Stone Scapes in the quote. . . Yet pushes pebble sheen over the other Pebble Tec products. - Hasn't mentioned Wet Edge at all and when I brought it up he was hesitant. He said he'd look into a certified dealer in our area.

I had a small issue with an Abalone shell that looked like a rust stain. The plaster company came out, dug it out, and put in matching plaster (all underwater). This was a certified applicator of Wet Edge. I did not even call Wet Edge - just the plaster applicator. All done very efficiently and quickly. I had 1 main spot and I pointed out what looked like it could be another and he fixed that as well since he was in the pool. He searched for other areas and all looked good.
He was very complementary on Wet Edge product - especially Primera Stone. He had been in the business for 20 years and says that is one of the best finishes he deals with. Now this was a worker sent out to fix an issue, not a salesman. So I feel he was sincere in his views as he had worked with several different companies throughout his 20+ years in the business. I could not verify his work history but he seemed very conscientious about doing a good repair.

Wet Edge or Pebbletec just supply the materials. Unless the materials are defective, which is unlikely, they don;t get involved. The responsibility for fixing application problems is on the plaster company and Pool Builder. Most problems are due to application errors and not materials defects.

I don't think you will get anywhere with wet edge. These white pebbles are coming in with the black and there is really nothing they can do about it. Either they stop selling that color or put the disclaimer on the website like they have. It sucks for the people who chose and installed blue ocean over the past 3 months because that disclaimer wasn't there but it is what it is at this point. I still wouldn't change my plaster choice, and none of our guests have noticed them. Its probably only my because I seem them at night when I brush the pool after the kids go to bed. Our pool lights really highlight them.

Reminds me of the joke in computer programming, "its not a bug, its a feature".
