Just started SLAM #3 this season...what am I doing wrong?

Hi! Just reading about your slam...how is the pool looking? I have had to slam twice this season.šŸ˜”Learning something new everyday. Learned a new word from your journey...ā€super chlorinatingā€....canā€™t wait to try that out tomorrow! Best of luck!!
Hi @Kenai! Thanks so much for asking! Pool is still clear and Iā€™m so glad I finally braved up enough to take out that light. Soooo gross back there

And the extra days of SLAM after I *thought* Iā€™d passed the OCLT was also a good idea!!! Iā€™ve also taken the advice of keeping my chlorine on the high end of things for my CYA.

Now Iā€™m just battling iron stains like crazy from our town water and having to top off almost every day. So far keeping the PH on the low side (7.2) and dosing almost weekly with the Metal Magic seems to work the best.

How about you? After second SLAM are things looking better?

Hi Jellwood...
So far so good...water is clear this morning. Flying a bit blind right now ...dosing with 64 oz LC each evening(reagents coming this week)....daily brushing and vaccuming..trying to diligently do my part to keep the algae at bay. Treated iron stain on stairs with vitamin C tablets in a sock a few weeks back...wondering if that may have deleted the chlorine enough to allow for the algae...or maybe to heavy rains causing pockets of lower FC. Our ā€œnew to meā€ pool is 20 years old with broken returns which causes poor circulation. Grateful for this site to see others experiences!!

It will deplete Chlorine thus causing algae, the last time I added polyquat 60 and it kept it away

Will keep Polyquat 60 in mind for future...hoping to keep algae at bay just by knowledge of how it starts...
Brush! Vacuum! Chlorinate!!! Repeat!
I did 2 AA treatments, first one I didn't use polyquat and got algae and FC went to ZERO and woudln't recover..had to do a mini SLAM
2nd time last month I added Polyquat and had no algae and used a lot of Ascorbic Acid so spent the new 3 or 4 weeks battling keeping my FC above 6 but finally stabilized

One thing that makes life easier is a SWG :) I got mine this year and am use to testing treating battling but so far FC stays steady round 6 and other then self inflicted caused like a AA treatment it has been perfect.

Our staining isnā€™t too bad. After reading pool school and posts of AA treatments I was a bit shy to try...as I wasnā€™t willing to let the FC go to 0. I think I can live with our staining...just a bit of green hue to the liner on the walls. Funny there is no staining on floor ...only walls.
I will consider salt water system purchase in the future..after I have gotten the chlorine method mastered! Think a robot cleaner will be a more realistic purchase for me. The hours I could get back!! We did purchase a cover...huge help with all the leaves and such (live on a farm surrounded by trees & wildlife). Nice to know I have a vacation from the pool come winter time!! Just add a bit of chlorine every 6 weeks or so and we are good to go!

In Georgia pool service is easy..I have a floater I add a couple pucks in and its stays crystal clear.

@Kenai congrats! I too had success with the AA treatment but also lost the battle with algae and then had to SLAM and all the stains came back. Iā€™ve had better luck with the ProTeam Metal Magic for the stains. Add polyfil in the skimmers and 36 hours later...voila!!

Also I love our Dolphin Nautilus robot. Chose it on the good advice here at TFP! Totally worth It!!
