Can the Taylor ph test be used on other liquids besides pool water?

Some quick Googling suggests that the indicator used in the standard Taylor test is Phenol Red and is limited to indicating a pH around 6.8 on the lower end. Dog urine seems to be in the low 6's... slightly acidic. So, I guess it won't work that well after all. I don't think the tint of the urine is necessarily an issue.

Yes, a ph meter is exactly what the vet uses; and we will be getting some dip sticks from the vet shortly for periodic home testing to be sure her food/treats aren't causing a low or high ph. I was just thinking maybe I could use my Taylor test today while waiting for the vet or in a pinch if I was out of the test sticks in the future.
