Hot deck

We are loving the 30ft round pool at the home we bought this winter but there are some issues we hope to resolve when it comes to the deck. I don’t know what material this composite decking is, but it gets scorching hot. I have considered covering the entire deck with indoor/outdoor carpet. Are there other options that we should be considering? Also, when they cut the deck, they left gaps where it meets the pool, mainly at the posts. Any ideas how to cover or fix without tearing up and starting over? Almost like it needs a trim edge entirely around the pool to cover gaps. They had put rope lights in a clear tube that covers the edge and the gaps. The lights are bad and the tube has discolored. I want to remove it but then we will expose the poorly cut deck. Any ideas??

Composite decking like Aztec, etc. always gets hot. Out door carpeting I think is your best bet. In regards to your deck. This is just a very poor design/install. Did they install the deck before or after the pool was installed?

That is simply a bad deck board installation. If it were me I would purchases a few more board feet of decking boards and cut back the bad boards, back to the second floor joist and lay down the new boards cut to the correct length. You may see some color difference between new and old?
I had to add new boards to my deck when I added my pool to me existing deck to accommodate a new layout and I did what I suggested above.
I have a composite timber tech deck and yes, it does get hot. I have seen some folks lay down an outside porch rug, (6'x10' or similar) on the decks in common walked areas.

You could add a piece of trim to cover the badly cut boards. Something like this one that is hinged so it can fold back to allow access when it comes time to replace the liner.

You might look at marine decking surface products like ShipsDek which are closed-cell, cross-linked polyethylene (PE) and ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) foam and apply over your existing boards.

My deck also gets hot. We use outdoor area rugs under the tables and chairs.

i just cheap outdoor rugs, they normally dont ever last til the next year, i think i pay like $20 or so each year.

Maybe try an rv rug? I have one on my patio & like it pretty well - it’s plastic & reversible

Yeah she’s a lurker It’s one of those “indestructible” horse balls that she destructed in less than 1 day

yeah, I was thinking he same thing. some kind of trim, you could cut some out of the composite decking to make the trim and choose a color to highlight it as a border.. not that I know a thing about decorating!
