Dead algea keeps coming back.

I have what I think would be dead algea at the bottom of my above ground pool.
It's fine like flour, brown and dissipated like a cloud.

If I vaccum to filter, all of it comes back within a day and more and more for the week.

I took the entire day to vaccum very slowly to waste. Since the pool empties quicker than it fills up with the garden hose, it took me all day.

After, I did a shock treatement, waited 2 days, vaccumed to filter, backwash, rince, filter.

This morning, I have again dead algea, but now it's sand color since I think it was bleached by the shock.

I've been in this loop, can't get rid of this stuff. Any suggestion on what more I could do?

You need to follow SLAM Process. You have algae in your pool water. Your current chlorine additions are just at a standstill with it.

Is the pool cloudy at all?

Hello! Since you've hopefully been reading articles around TFP & Pool School, the best way to address this is a proper test kit and balance your chemicals. It sounds like you have lack of chlorine.

I see you are in Can, are there any restrictions on liquid chlorine there?

Thank you for replying. No the water is crystal clear.
I looked at the SLAM video. Surprisingly, that's pretty much what I did, not perfectly, but in that direction.

Last summer, we had our baby, so I only started the pool and put chlorine in it, just so it would be running.
That's clearly the source of my problem.

Would it be possible that dead algea get stuck in the sand filter and gets released with backwash or filtering?

No. You need to follow the SLAM Process. Through to completion and pass the three criteria.

The problem is that you must get rid of ALL the algae, and not just most of the algae.. Just because the water is clear does not mean you still can't have a low level of algae.. Which will not stay low for long.. ☹

As everyone has said.. This is a chemical problem and not a filter or mechanical problem.
