Hi everyone I am a new pool owner. Its my first time on a blog so I hope I’m doing this right.
I bought a house with a pool with the past year. Two weeks ago I had a new Hayward pump and sand filter installed. It’s been running since and the pool is still green. Saturday I decided to skim the bottom with a skimmer and I collected two 25 gallons garbage bag of dead stinky leaves. Today I started vacuuming the pool. My husband said that I am wasting my time. He thinks I should empty the pool and start new. I am lost and confused. All the testing seems ok. Today chlorine was high. Would the pool ever clear so that I can see the bottom to know what I am

You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit, see Test Kits Compared. I suggest the TF-100 A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

Keep doing what you're doing in taking the bottom of the pool to clear the debris. Get a recommended test kit n stock up on liquid chlorine.

Thanks I’ve started with the bleach but now the after checking my water today the ph is 7.2, acidity is high and chlorine is orange.

I just had the pool store check the water and this is what they came beck with:
Ph 7.3 : staberlizer 13. Hardness 18. Fc 2.7. Tc3.8 Alkaline 175
He had a couple of ideas as what to do.

I am newish here myself, but I can def say do NOT listen to the pool store advice. And now that you got the TF test kit, you no longer need to have the pool store test your water. Stick to one method (this one since you're here!) There is a LOT of info when you are a new pool owner and it can be easy to get overwhelmed. But trust me - the advice here is invaluable. Read the articles. Digest. Read them again. Digest.

Just to echo the advice you've gotten here, stick to tfp methods and you will never have a problem. This is my third year with a pool, having never had one before. I spent about a month reading all the info available here and asked questions when I needed clarification. The mods and members are so knowledgeable and answer questions FAST! I have never had to slam, the tf100 instructions make testing a breeze, the speed stir is just amazing. My water is clear, and because I test myself, I KNOW its sanitary. Just follow the advice you get here and you won't need good luck to have a fabulous pool.

Sob I’ve been skimming the button of my pool every day and it seems that I would never stop scooping up debris. My husband keeps nagging about emptying or getting rid of some water.
He has given me two weeks before he takes over. Deep down I know what I am doing is right.
Every day I clean and slam. I hoping to see a light at the bottom of the pool.

All of the organics need to be removed. Do you know what your CYA level is?

You need to get a good test kit. After that we can help you decide if you should do a partial drain or not.

Wow, thats a big task and a lot more brown than your typical green pool SLAM. Did you pool get flooded or something else drop a bunch of dirt/mud in there?

Yes I fished out a planter still filled with dirt from the button of the deep end. Still waiting the arrival of my kit.

So with the pool being brown does that mean a different approach.

What kind of filter do you have? Can you vacuum to waste?
