So with the pool being brown does that mean a different approach.

If you can get all of the solids out, you will probably be fine as long as you have access to a lot of bleach. But if you have high CYA, you might not have a choice, you may have to exchange some of the water. But you can't just drain your pool or you risk destroying your liner. Keep fishing out the sludge and then as soon as you get your test kit, post the numbers here.

Not really... whatever you do you have to get the gunk out. All that dirt and organic material will provide nutrients for the algae. If your filter set up will allow you to vac to waste you can pump it out. or rent a small AG pump to pump out the crud if there is a lot of it. You don't want to risk damaging the vinyl liner by draining the whole pool so you can probably do a partial drain and exchange. Drain some then add more water to keep the level up. We will know the full extent of your chemistry once you get your test kit. If there are other things that need to be adjusted that can be incorporated into your water exchange. That's why getting a set of test results at the start is important. If you could put all your equipment in your signature it will help others in providing advice. BTW? How did a planter end up in your pool? did it blow in? Was there a wild party?

As I said before I also fished two bikes from the pool. I was wondering if they could have contributed to the rust color on the steps and brown looking water

I suspect you have iron in the water from the metals you fished out. Your best bet would be to do a large water exchange.

Might be a good idea to test for metals.. any idea how long the bikes were in there?

I would also be concerned about the liner with everything you are fishing out.. Does the water level hold steady?

The water level holds. I’ve just installed a new Haywood pump and sand Filter. The bikes could have been in there for about 5 years.
If you look at the pictures you can see some discoloring at the steps.
So after looking at my numbers do you guys think I should do a partial refill?
I would be using well water for the refill.
Please what ever you say I would do at this time.

OK -- that is good. You do not have a water softener /conditioner?

With a vinyl liner pool, you can only drain down about 18-24" before you have to refill. Vacuuming to waste would be a good idea, just depends on how far you can go before you lose suction. Try that a few times and see what it takes to refill the pool.
