Will slamming ever complete?

There is one happy southern girl doing a little dance this morning! If you squint really hard, you can start to see the squares?. I let the FC drop to 10. What do ya know...y'all really are the experts! The PH was giving a false lower reading... this morning, after letting FC drop, it read 7.8. Lowered it as directed in pool math..2 hours later reading 7.4. I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

you can add a small amount of POOL Diatomaceous Earth to your filter and it will clear things up faster. you don't seem to have a skimmer so I am not sure how easy it would be to get a slurry of it into your intake spot, maybe a squirt bottle or something like that. at any rate your filter WILL get it out eventually, I suggest not backwashing so often - sand filters actually work better with little bed of caught dirt in them (that is essentially what the DE would do). Newest update: Day ?who knows? of quarantine and slam process.

Realistically, the first day was March 15. Yes, I would have drained and started fresh by now, but I've got nothing but time on my hands. Rain has come in, temps have dropped below the comfortable swimming temps... so onward we go maties.
Levels are staying pretty constant. Have let the clorine drop to the lower end of 8-10. Started vacuuming to waste... because I needed to get rid of some water. I let the pump keep on trucking for about a week or so, and I backwashed at about 8psi... just couldn't wait any longer, lol. It still has a slight fog to the water, but improves a tiny bit each day.

Ta-Da!! We can stand on the patio and count the squares. You can't really see it in the pics, because it's super cloudy....outside. The pool looks fantastic, and for this TFP has gained a supporter. ❤

Here's a funny little story for you to enjoy:
Notice, in my original post, I said I just found this site. After I made that post, I noticed it said I became a member in 2012. I was really confused, then realized I used this site when I bought my very first AG pool. ? Good to know you folks are "always" there for me, lol. That first pool did not do so well. As you can tell, I'm much better at following directions now (actually spent the money on the proper test kit).

The plan was to convert to salt water this year. Now that SLAM is complete, is this the time to add salt and connect the SWG? Or do I wait for the FC levels to go down to the normal range first?

Good a time as any. Some things to keep in mind:
- Add the salt now as you need it in the water at least 24 hrs before operating the SWG
- Verify all your chemical levels once the FC hits 10 or below.
- Have additional stabilizer on-hand & ready so that you're ready to increase the CYA to 70.
- Once the SWG is on, monitor FC closely for the next few days to ensure you are pleased with the SWG % output and pump run times to maintain the FC you require. FC/CYA Levels

Thanks...I had not read that info anywhere. My temp is good.... mornings are running around 72. It's 11:52am now, and it's reading 79 degrees.

I had a similar situation with my small intex and intex sand filter. I never did get it clear. I ended up buying a new cartridge filter which I like much better. Like you, with all the money and time I spent on chemicals, I would have been better off draining and spending the $150 on new water. Lesson learned. This year got on top of pool early and only took a week to clear everything up. Sorry you had such a hard time with it. Congratulations on your diligence.

I haven't had to touch my pool since the 10th of April (10 days), except for vacuuming it twice. Boy, it's been windy! Every chemical has tested perfect... even with a couple of inches of rain. If things continue this way, I'll just keep it going year round. It's easy peasy, when you've learned the right way!
