Austin, TX - Above Ground Salt Water Pool in Canyon - Construction Started 09/30/19

It's been a slow month with the holidays and waiting for the cabana/bathroom permit on the framing to get cleared by the city. Here's a few photos of the cabana/bathroom, not much else to report. My PB said they'll shoot the mini pebel in late January.

First, here's a shot I took from my neighbor's house (wide angle):

Here's the framing of the cabana/kitchen/bathroom:

For the unforeseeable future you are my gold standard of not only what *can* be done, but also how cool it can be. Doing a cannonball 75 ft ABOVE the treetops while overlooking Devils Canyon.

I guess if you invested that airplane money in ATT and Apple and let it sit for 49 years, this isn’t even costing that much in the grand scheme of things. Bravo nonetheless.

I laughed and nodded in confirmation at that part for multiple reasons I won't confirm nor deny ;)

What an amazing build.

I saw your little one in the pic earlier rocking the cozy coupe. I bet they (or he/she) are excited!

What? Wait... Argh! This is worse than binging on Netflix and you find out after watching 5 seasons that the sixth season isn't available yet!!! Where's the last season? I can't stand these cliff hangers (literally, in this case!)... ?

Congrat's on an amazing build!! Now HURRY UP! The suspense is killing me!

Haha!

Things have slowed down a bit. Getting electrical and plumbing permits inspected for the bathroom/kitchen has been a slow process. I have lighting, electrical wiring/switches and shower exhaust fan in. It’s hardly worth a picture.

I an starting to procure bathroom and kitchen stuff, so I’ll start documenting some of that stuff when we get a bit closer. While not pool related, some might find it interesting. For example, I just ordered a Daikin 9000 btu split air conditioner unit for the bathroom.

I stumbled on your thread late, because it was just referenced in someone else's thread that is contemplating an above-ground install similar to yours. We don't see too many of these, so it's a great story to follow. We all love the updates!

Thanks, I should have more updates soon. Travertine and coping is being installed next week!

Things have been slow, partially due to a ton of rain Austin has had. Also, my pool builder and the person on his team that designed the pool had a mis-communication and didn't cut the concrete at the 45 degree in-angle (knife edge) that we agreed upon, so a team spent two days cutting concrete and re-finishing. Cast concrete coping and some waterline tile has gone in. Finally, some substantial sewer plumbing work was done in the bathroom.

Glass work should be done any day now and then the travertine pavers. PB says end of March finish date (including bathroom/kitchen), but I'm not buying it. If it's done by the end of April, I'd say that's a miracle...

Sewage for toilet with some intricate 360 feed ins from the urinal:

Waterline tile (we went with a very dark and natural tile to make the glass work the showcase. The goal of the waterline was to help blend in with the darker green treeline, etc:

Cast concrete coping (salt water somewhat limited our options here):

More waterline and the beginning of the wall and fountain:

45 degree cut-in knife edge. This will be glass:

More knife-edge:

Waterline tile and additional wall/fountain build-up:

Here's the glass tile which will be on the knife edge, spa spill-over, step linings, etc:

Looks like your PB and company really stepped up and fixed the mess up. Nice to see that happen!

Lots of work was done but you are right.............there is a lot of work still left to go. It will all be worth it in the end though!

What color of grout are you going to use for the glass tile?

Wife and designer did the grout selection so honestly I don’t know, haha.

Glass on the edge was put on today! It's interesting how much it changes color depending on angle and sun. I can't wait to see what it look like with water!

Every pool has many 'moods' also. Its neat to discover them all the first few times they happen. Even something as simple as a blazing sunshine day can look entirely different early/mid//late season, or blazing morning sun is entirely different looking than the same sun in the afternoon. The cool looking glass will only make more interesting combos. Happy hunting when the time comes D.B.
