So we got quite a bit of rain this week from a pop-up tropical system. This isn't my first storm rodeo so I figured it was coming and had my fresh chlorine jugs ready and enough MA. I was able to get out in between bands and dose as needed like the pinned post about storms instructed. Water got up to the coping a few nights ago, and we did a 5 minute backwash full blast when the overflow couldn't keep up. Reloading DE in the rain was a task, but I managed and otherwise kept my skimmers clear. Now that the storm is over, I did my full tests (Taylor K2006) and discovered my CYA is basically gone. I didn't grab any in advance and can't get to a store yet, so I'm just using a couple of tablets the PB left. Hope to get to the store soon so I can get the CYA up and start up my SWG (have salt bags ready to go.) What is the best deal for CYA? It took me a couple of weeks to get it to the 40 or 50 range with a 4 lb jug of powdered granules in the sock 1 lb at a time. Are the premeasured 1 lb chunks that look like big dishwasher tabs ok or do I need to stick to the powder? My Walmart had both last time I checked, but I can check the pool store if there are other recommendations.

Any form of stabilizer will do as long as it is 100% Cyanuric Acid. Different packaging will come at different prices.

You can get more then 1 sock soaking to get it in quicker.

Riss,

I've used 5 lb. containers of granular that I got at HD. I use ladies stockings filled with 1-2 lb at a time. If you squeeze daily it all disappears in 2-3 days. I find with swg and borate buffer keeping the CSI just slightly negative is easier with 60 ppm or a little more. If I get higher than this the CSI runs a little more negative (still OK but more like -.2 instead of -.05 to -.15). Below 60 I seem to consume a lot more FC.

I hope this helps.

I have only seen CYA in granular/powder form. I am not aware this product is available......do you have a brand name and/or a pic?

Certainly easy to transport. Do they stay together pretty well? Are the costs reasonably comparable? Seems like a VERY convenient product.

You are paying $4/lb for stabilizer in the HTH pods versus $2.50/lb for a bag of stabilizer I buy at my local pool store. About 2X the cost or packaging and convenience.
