Summer arrived today here, it's 94 at 4pm and supposed to go up another 2 degrees today. It'll be here till tomorrow for the first day of school, forecast is 94. Then down to low 80s for the next week. The pool was at 72 last night. No one has swam for well over a week, almost two now.

All the teenagers want to swim tomorrow after the first day of school. I finally get to dose up for bodies.

I am seething with jealousy right now lol! Here is our weekly forecast:



I’m glad the lows will at least be in the 60s at night. Better than the mid 50s we have been having. Water temperature is currently 70 degrees. ? It rained super hard all day yesterday so I’ve been cleaning up that mess. Have fun swimming finally!! I should at least get some “floating” weather this week. Trying to find the silver lining lol

We finally broke down and put our solar cover on this week after leaving it off all summer. I don't know if they help to gain heat, but they do help hold it once you have it. There's also less dirt in the pool when we use it, so that's a bonus.

I am hoping they will be on sale! I just feel like it’s too late and I might as well wait until next summer or if they are majorly on sale now, buy a quality one and stash it for next summer so I can get the good deal. If I buy one to use now, it’ll likely just be a cheapo. I’m not the best at storing used stuff. Always ends up getting dirty. I need a shed. Blah!

The past couple weeks it was in the low 90s and our pool water was at minimum 80 degrees but usually in the 85-87 range. Then boom....75 degree weather with 55 degree nights. I guess it’s September and I need to get realistic here. I’m just trying to stretch my season as long as I can. I’m definitely not investing in a heater and will only buy a solar cover now if they are on sale big time. Zero luck on Amazon lol

It beats our week. We're going to warm up a bit here - back to 77 tomorrow, then Sun/75, Mon/77, Tue/78, with 50s/low 60s for overnights. Ugh, I hope it gets better after that because not swimming every day is making me sad. At least we have a heater - I wish it could help with the air temps. ☺

In Minny I would hope you have a heater LOL!! I do not have one. My electric bill is already insane from the AC and pool pump lol! Adding a heater would probably make the electric company and law enforcement think I got a “garden” going on in my basement lol!!

Yeah, we do need it. I think we over use it, but our bills haven't been too bad. I had to laugh last night when we were watching some ultimate resort pool show. They kept talking about how the resorts keep the pools at a "balmy 85 degrees" or "the water is 84 all year long!" My 13yr old was not impressed. She's super spoiled because my husband cranks ours up to 92 just about every evening. Anything less and he complains that it's cold. ?

That was our problem with our heater. The heater worked fine. Nobody felt like swimming knowing they were getting out of the warm water to 60-70ish air temps. It wasnt worth the insane electric bill for a handful of swims. We were swimming last night (no heater on and 75 degree water and air) We were adjusted to the cooler water soon enough but anything above the water was freezing. Swimming around with a cold head and shoulders. And getting out wasnt particularly fun either. Oh well, next year will be better.

I put my pool up at the very end of July so I didn’t get much swimming time either so don’t feel bad. Next year will for sure be better! I actually didn’t miss out much in June or the first half of July much at all here. It was a pretty mild summer, just muggy and lots of rain. I definitely won’t be investing in a pool heater but will be purchasing a solar cover for next season when they are on clearance. I can also get away with enjoying the pool when the water temps are below desirable since I have some big float loungers and can just relax in the sun and tan without freezing. I do wish I got more swimming time, though.

I got my cover on a pre-season sale from intheswim. I was worried about the quality from such a discount site but it was very well made and lasted 5 years, which by cover standards is pretty long. If you dont find any steals at closing time, check again at throughout the winter/ early spring.

We have a natural gas heater and use it to start the swim season early and end it late. Now we just have to get a used pump up and running since our 19 year old Doughboy pump finally bit the dust.
Plan is to fire up the gas heater when we get the pump running and extend the season thru mid September. A year or 2 ago, I swam in October when the air temp was in the 80's, water temp with heater at 84. Very nice swim.

We have the same problem even when the heater is running. LOL.
Already missing the summer that only showed up periodically here in Michigan.

I thought my swimming season was over!! I guess the Pool Gods said “nope!”. YAY!! And all my nursing classes are 3pm or later (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays) so I get plenty of sunbathing (floats...woo!!!) and swimming time! I’m sure the Floridia and Arizona members are laughing at me lol. Sorry for my annoying post, I’m just really excited! Midwest people, when do you usually close your pools? I’m leaving mine up for the winter and it’s my first pool (thus first closing) so this is very new to me. Thanks!!

I’m sure I’ll still be bombing the forum with a million questions but THE POOL IS UP, running, (almost) balanced, and I am one happy little lady! After today we are supposed to have a stretch of beautiful weather for about a week. Summer semester ended yesterday....you know exactly what I’ll be doing!! Thank you to everyone who helped me! If it wasn’t for this forum my pool would probably be green, unlevel (probably to the point of collapse eventually), and who knows what else. I love TFP!!!!! I’ll still be asking annoying questions probably daily but I wanted to show our new pool! Having some nice stones delivered to put around the pool to help with drainage, will hook up the thru the wall skimmer (right now we are using the basic Intex surface mount one and it’s doing a great job) and getting a bigger and sturdier ladder until next spring when we expand the deck, etcView attachment 113300.

Not to hijack the thread, but have you considered getting your TA to a level that helps stabilize your pH?
