Do you check your pool daily?

It’s August and we had no wind no rain for 2 weeks and pool looks great ! Normally I check the pool daily but the last 7 days all I done was look out the house window. I feel guilty I haven’t done anything. Lol. Today I checked skimmer- checked the chemicals and it’s perfect ?. I still feel guilty. Why ?

Well for me no I don't check daily. After a season or two you get to know the pool's needs and can almost estimate accurately.
I test the water 3 times a week at most. It's during the weekdays which I rarely swim in. Unless the expected bather load is much higher, then I do test more often.

I've yet to test and find the chlorine less than what it should be.

I have saltwater pools.. So no, they take care of themselves, so once a week is about it, unless I'm working on a specific project or experiment.

I do not have a saltwater pool and I check mine daily. Not the skimmer, just the chemicals.

This is our first season and I am becoming pretty familiar with the reactions and what our pool requires. I check the PH and FC every two days in the evening before bed. I was checking the CYA pretty regularly until I feel like I got an accurate reading. The PH I was adjusting often until I think I finally got our TA under control. I have only tested CH once since we have a vinyl liner. I check/change the hairnets in the skimmers about once a week/week and a half. Back wash only when needed (so far every couple of weeks). And vacuum every 2 weeks. I add about 96 oz of liquid 12.5% chlorine every 2 days.

I'm a TFPC noob this year, so I'm checking every day. Plus, I can't see my pool from indoors (you have to go outside and walk around the corner of the house to get to the pool), and I need the visual reassurance that it's not gone cloudy.

I think I have a handle on the FC, though -- I add about 2 cups chlorine every other day to maintain FC levels. pH is stable at 7.5, so is TA at 80. We won't talk about CYA right now.

I'm happy with our schedule. Test, dose as needed, and run the pump 4 hrs every day at sunset.

Outside of the PH (which will creep up sometimes) all other numbers are staying rock steady. CYA has come down about 20 PPM since May, so may bump that up in a few weeks. When the pool service did our pool the CYA was 400. Yes- 400. Crazy. This is my 2 Nd year doing it. I wish I can use liquid chlorine but pool is to large. I use cal- hypo - has no stable in it. Use 3 inch tabs also. The CYA is holding at 50 last two years. I notice I don’t need many tabs anymore. I been putting in 3 every 4 to 7 days. Every 5 to 7 days I put in cal - hypo. More like every 7 days. The ph and all my numbers are holding steady. I did control the alkaline first. I’m learning if you get your alkalinity right the PH stays steady. If anyone reads that part. Please tell my why that is. Get alkalinity correct first and PH will follow????

First of the season is every day. Later in the season is every other day or so. I log my results so I have a good idea of what to expect later in the season.

I do ??‍lol. I don’t know if I’m just a little OCD or if it’s because it’s my first pool and this forum has me scared about algae and everything else under the sun (no pun intended lol). You’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing; no need to feel guilty!! ??‍ Checking daily is a little unnecessary and costs me some extra money but so far I have had nothing but crystal clear water and truly a trouble free pool. Others do too without religiously checking their water.

There is nothing wrong with what you’re doing, though! I’m just a nutcase lol don’t listen to me! ??

I don't. I'm leaning towards 1-2x per week.

But I log everything into Pool Math. If I screw up, I have logs. My logs will blame me only. haha. I love it.

There's a time when you know what your pool does, and the weather/swimmers/conditions tell you what to do.

Pool Math logs are amazing, this is my first year doing that. I love it. There's nothing wrong with testing daily and learning your pool. There's nothing wrong with knowing a pool and dosing daily/nightly based upon what you know.

Testing is a wonderful tool. Use it.

I’m retired and a nut also with my house, yard- pool. If I’m not doing something I fell like I’m doing something wrong. See those chairs around the pool. I never sat or laying on them - not once !!!!

I am about 30 years away from retirement and we sound exactly the same lol! As long as our water stays crystal clear and balanced, I see no problem in checking it daily. I would rather do too much than too little. Speaking of being a yard nut, I really need to cut the grass today! Thank you for the reminder lol!

My pool is checked daily. It takes very little time and effort to perform the test. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

Sounds like you might be a candidate for a SWG... and if your retired you need a new project

I test mine once a week... in between I use a strip just for a ballpark value if I'm in the mood. I don't look at if everyday. I'm pretty sure it won't be abducted by aliens.

It gives the kids something to do.. and they don't use up my reagents making potions for the lemonade stand

In all honesty.. I use them.. but I don't rely on them. I rely on my test kit.

I find that you get to the point where you can tell how it's doing just by looking at the water. You can see if it's lost that sparkle or the color changes slightly. I test a few times a week, 2-3, but as others have said, I know about how much my pool loses daily and how much to add. It has it's own personality and once you "get to know it" it's so easy to manage!
