Hey all- enjoying the pool this summer nownthst is actually acting like summer in Ohio!

My issue is the vinyl over steps in our pool They are slicker than snail snot... I busted my arse, and so have two other people. I think my pool handle needs some re-alignment.

Does anyone make traction material or bathtub type matts for the steps? I hesitate to put any kind of tape or something that will compromise the liner, but I really need to make this more safe.

Thanks,

Todd

Slick vinyl implies a biofilm and the beginnings of algae. Have you brushed them? What are your chlorine levels? How is your water clarity?

I am having the same problem with two older parents and their bad knees, my mom fell in yesterday and almost got her head. I have researched now for hours and I’m just going to buy a hurry cane that they will use to get in and out. I figure the non slip cups on the bottom would be sturdy enough to use on the steps and won’t harm the liner.

I found a company called SlipX in Michigan that makes all sorts of non slip solutions. I reached out for some ideas on material by the foot to cover entry area of steps and thoughts on surviving in a pool. They use suction cup material

I had people slip this weekend and every time I tried to slip I couldn't. The vinyl was squeaky clean, I think they were slipping on the edge of the step and not the actual flat part of step.

Im having the same issue. My pool is crystal clear, all my numbers are in check with what they should be, and my stairs are slippery as anything. I was thinking of clear grip tape, like on a skate board. Its cheap enough that if the adhesive would not work under water, it wouldnt be much of a financial loss. My biggest concern is potential damage to the liner on the steps. Anyone find any decent solutions yet?

The people at SlipX responded to my FB message. They are sending a few products to try out in my pool for free. I thought that was pretty awesome. I haven’t received them yet, but I will let everyone know how it goes. My wife thought the bathmats from Walmart were going to look bad , so we’ll see

Alright- so I got the mats in the mail. Slipxsolutions sent me a Large Safety Bath mat in blue. It matches the pool liner. It has a microban coating to prevent mold and mildew. They also sent a clear Prism bathmat. The Clear amplifies the blue of the liner, but the liner pattern shines through. Both are highly slip resistant and feel about the same. I’d go with the Prism, just so you can’t see it.

They are both very easy to put down with suction cups. They are in a curved section of the steps so they don’t fit 100% perfect. They make it much less slippery. I’m going to see if I can order the materials by the foot.

Overall seems like a good solution. Can’t speak to the longevity yet. Will keep them in this summer to test them out.

Their website is slipxsolutions.com

Are your steps vinyl over steel or concrete? Who’s the manufacturer of the liner, have you tried reaching out to them for possible known issues/solutions. Maybe just the angle of the picture but your top step appears out of square to the second one and kinda small with the style. I have full length over concrete and no railing and my steps don’t have a hint of being slick. Hopefully your mat solution works for you as I can imagine it hurts like heck wiping out.
