Our journey to owning a new pool began earlier this year. I'm glad to have found this forum as I have no idea what I'm getting into other than hopefully some great memories with the family. Thanks for any advice. I'll try and post some pics of when we first broke ground a few weeks ago.

How deep is that bad boy going to be??? Looks like diving deep! FUN TIMES!

Those trees are going to be *fun* when it comes to leaf drop time...........I wonder how long it will be before they are cut down LOL

How far from the house is it? What colors have you picked? What equipment will you have?

Hi Kim,

3.5-7 ft deep. I hear ya - those trees may cause more harm than good! ?
It is about 40-50 ft from house. Trying to solidify plans on a small cabana/bathroom next to pool. Trying to match house brick as close as possible but that’s a challenge here.
Will post equipment detail as I get those details.

I would go away from trying to match the house brick. Go for a more beachy look using siding or such. Another idea would be to pick a lighter brick or a totally different color.

Where are your thinking of putting the pool house?

I wondered if that were it would go. Will you have a TV out there as well? There is nothing better than floating in the pool and watching a football game or movie! You will LOVE having a potty right there as well!

That all come out GREAT! SO PRETTY! Has to be killing you to look at is while waiting on the plaster!!!

Do you have an overflow line? It should be a small grate towards the top of the tile. This will help you not have to run out to drain some water when you have big rains.

I am going to guess all of the equipment is placed and hooked up but wanted to give you a heads up on a couple of the pieces-the UV part and the "rainbow" in-line. UV is never acceptable on it’s own. UV is only suitable as an adjunct to one of the three primary sanitizers: chlorine, bromine, or Baquacil. UV, in combination with a sanitizer, is very nice for use with an indoor pool. UV can take care of the CC which tends to build up in indoor pools. UV is not worth it for an outdoor pool, where sunlight performs the same function for free.

Well they added the rainbow in line to help it out.....what you put in there is tablets or pucks. These are okay for start ups and short term. The biggest problem with them is they add stuff to your water. Most of them add CYA aka stabilizer. Some add CH (calcium hardness). While you do need some CYA and CH over time the pucks will keep adding and adding and adding it. The only way to remove CYA and CH is to drain and replace some of your water.

What we suggest instead of using pucks long term is liquid chlorine or a SWG as seen in this link: Salt Water Chlorine Generators - Trouble Free Pool

This is a lot of info at one time. I will allow you some time to read it over and do some thinking and reading. Let me know your thoughts after you have looked it over some.

Oh and do you have your test kit yet? If not ask your PB which one he will provide and let us know so we can fill in any holes.

Hi Kim, yes there is an overflow line. I forgot to mention that. Correct on the equipment and after reading many posts on TFP, I knew exactly what you might say about the UV and Rainbow :) It sounds like I'll be using liquid bleach and/or converting to a SWG when that gets to be too much of a pain. My neighbor is always complaining about CYA and now I know why. I'll check on the test kit!
