A cartridge filter question

heck All,

I have notice that when I open the basket between the "wet" and "dry" side of my pump (I think it is called the pump strainer pot), to clean it out, I can hear the water draining out of my attached Pentair cartridge filter. I assume this is because of the pressure loss.
I wanted to know, when this happens, where does the water from inside the filter go ? Does it get drained out to sweage ? Or is it still in the pool "system" ?

I'm asking because, while I was adding stabilizer to my pool using the "sock method", that sock got sucked into the skimmer suction ( I had the cover removed). I had to open the pump strainer to remove the sucked-in sock (thankfully, it made its way all the way there ). Considering, I had just added the solid/granular stabilizer, if the water got drained out from the filter to sweage, I will have to add almost the same amount back. If not, then I'll just wait for the CYA to fully dissolve.

Which way should I go ?

Thanks !

When you open the system, the water drains back to the lowest point, normally to the pool, if it is an inground pool and your equipment is located above the elevation of the water in the pool.

This comment caught my eye ......

The sock full of stabilizer should go in the poolside skimmer, not the pump strainer basket/pot. Just wanted to make sure. :)

Thanks for your replies !
@mknauss , that's great ! I don't need to account for "drained" water then. I'll wait for my CYA result before adding any more.

@Texas-splash, yeah, the sock got sucked from the pool side skimmer...and (thankfully) made its way to the pump strainer :)
