I'm gonna blame you guys for turning me into a chlorine snob. Ran to 3 HDs, a Lowes and a Leslie's.

Ended up with 20 gallons of 10% dated 19-072. I was hoping for something in the 100s, but didnt find it anywhere. There was plenty of 18-XXX floating around, too.

I'm not sure what the date was on the Leslie's chlorine, but at $10/2gal of it wasnt today it wasnt worth it.
But with your knowledge now, you'll never have an expensive 'green' pool again!

Current test results:

FC: 4.5 (I lost about 6ppm today)
CC: 0.5 and holding
PH: 7.5 and creeping up.

I added a gallon of 10%, which should bump me a bit over SLAM level of 12 for CYA/30. I'll test it again in an hour or so. PSI on the filter seems steady. I'm tempted to add a little MA to push the PH back down to 7.2 or so. 0.3 gain in a day seems a bit much, unless either the chlorine or the CYA is adding to it. The FC wasn't so high that it should have impacted the PH test, though.

Edit: Almost forgot the pics! The current situation (there are steps under there...) and my war chest.

It sounds stupid, but the water seems thicker. My pump isn't running at a fast RPM, but it is running constantly. The surface doesn't ripple like it has, and I was concerned I wasn't getting any outlet. But I paused and restarted it, which kicks it onto high for 2 minutes, and the flow is working fine. Very strange.

Is the green going to gray blue yet?

Not really. The spa is closer, since it's a semi-enclosed environment, but the main pool is a deep green. At least it was when I did my test two hours ago. I don't have great lighting out there, and it was tough to say with my cell phone. I'll take a picture first thing tomorrow along with a morning set of tests.

When you begin killing algae in mass, the dead carcasses will make the water 'thick' as you say. Because they disperse easily. You should see a significant change from green to that grey blue within 24 hours of really keeping your FC at SLAM level.

Pool pic attached.

FC: 11 - lost 1.5
CC: 0.5
TA: 150

I didn't test the PH because FC was over 10. I did add the MA last night, though, so it should be down. Filter PSI seems steady.

I'll add a bit more chlorine to bump the FC over 12 again.

Yup, just keep bumping the FC up anytime it's dropped!

I wouldn't mess with PH/TA or MA additions during SLAM Process

Still no grey/blue color, but it does appear to be eating some chlorine.

FC: 6.0
CC: 1.0 (or maybe a bit less - it was fairly clear at 0.5)
PH: 7.2
TA: 140

CYA is still dissolving. Gave the sock another squish. Checked the filter PSI - seems good. Not a lot in the skimmer sock. Some debris in the pump filter basket, which I cleaned out. Added another gallon of chlorine to bring it up over 12, and gave the whole pool a good brushing.

SLAM has "officially" started, so I'll run hourly tests, or less depending on how stable the chlorine is. At least 2 more tonight, tho.

The water ripples like it should, and seemed to be this morning. Maybe it was just the lighting, or maybe the pool wasn't the only thing that had too much green last night. ?

Interesting that the CC went down slightly. Chlorine doesn't seem to be getting used overly quickly.
That is what it should do! Nice :)
FC: 19.5
CC: 0.5

Odd that the FC went up. I wonder if the chlorine is floating for some reason? I upped the RPM on my pool pump to mix it a bit quicker.
Smart move, maybe there was an extra "glug" when pouring?
FC 14.5 / CC 1.0

That's better. I'll keep monitoring it, but post in the morning or if something significant changes.
Great updates! Keep it up!! You'll have envy water in little time!

This morning:

FC: 13.5
CC 1.0

Pretty minimal loss overnight, and still over SLAM/CYA 30. At this rate I'll just be replacing based off sun loss.

Filter PSI, cleanliness, and the skimmer basket all good.

Great update! (thanks for the pic, you'll like it when looking back at your progress too!)
Curious... If you bump your FC to 15, do the CC's stay down? Wondering if that is the edge to beat those?
