Dallas New Build 2019

I'm supposed to be talking to the Pentair rep directly later today. I did want to see if anybody was familiar with the different Intellicenter models so I'd have a little background ahead of time for that system. There looks to be an PS (e.g. i5PS) and P (e.g. i5P) version but I haven't been able to determine the difference.

Any thoughts on going with a standard MasterTemp 400 vs the MasterTemp 400 HD. It looks like the main difference is the heat exchanger material, but I'm not clear what the thought is to when one is required over the other. Is the heat exchanger what will eventually take out the unit?

I have the pool builder deducting out the pump, filter, and controller and am going to be providing them myself along with the heater. I'm planning to go with the same VSF Pump 3HP (011056) and Clean & Clear Plus 420 Filter (160301), upgrading to the IntelliCenter I5PSIC40 (521906) (that's with the SWG), or maybe the I8PSCI40, and adding a MasterTemp 400 LO-NOx, though still trying to decide between standard or HD.

Anybody have any insight on the pros and cons of the standard vs HD?

Jim,
I noticed your pool is similar in capacity to my plan but that you have the 520 filter. That option hadn't really come up is the discussion so far. What led you to go that selection?

Finally got excavation complete after several rain delays. Apparently the excavator has been doing several that ended up with wall collapses. They left it covered in sheeting with a pump. It poured the next days but seems to be doing it's job. The soil injections and steel are currently set for tomorrow, stub plumbing the next day, and Gunite for Saturday. Fingers crossed!

If you don't mind me asking, why did you go with the Intellicenter vs the Easytouch and adding ScreenLogic? I have just started my research on the Pentair Automation equipment... and am not sure of the difference?

It’s their newest offering. The Internet/web feature is all built-in. It has a lot more feature circuits and schedules.

The bottom line is, why go with old technology when their newest version is basically the same price?

Awesome thread with great info. Thanks for sharing!

I haven't measured it yet but should be able to tomorrow. It's currently covered for the rain. I'll be sure to do that before steel.

All measured fine. Got hit by a couple of rain delays. Got the steel in and then a storm came through Dallas that laid my neighbors tree over the pool. Luckily no real damage. The tree guys got it out without dropping it in the pool. Knocked a couple days off but concrete is going in now!

Close, just the other side of NW Highway.

Got the Gunite in. Hopefully this thing will pick up speed at this point.

That really came out great. I love the steps and overall shape of your pool!

I have a set of links for you about plaster. Some tell what you can do before you get it and some tell you what to do when you get it! Share this info with your PB and see what they have to say.

Now would also be a good time to ask your PB what test kit he will be giving you. Let us know so we can fill in holes.

As far as the spa goes, I am glad you know what you are getting. Spas are the most oversold and underused items in most pool builds. This is simply because often the new pool owner has never used a gunite spa before buying one.. Kind of like buying your very first car before taking it for a test drive...

Jim R.
Hi Jim.. can you elaborate on this? What would the issue be with a gunite spa?
