we use crown a lot also. They r very solid. I was saying crestron wasn’t the best idea for the above setup cause he isn’t going to completely blanket his home with crestron. You can accomplish the same with other stuff bit like I said if it’s going to grow it makes good sense.

He won’t be able to diy crestron either which it sounded like he was going to.


We we have used grand concertos on many commercial restaurants. They work well for settings like that. But again hey r a audio company vs automation company.

I was showing how powerful the new keypads can be for diy people. It was a nice suprise with their new line.

Oh I agree Jim, other then the physical install of the Crestron products and other pieces, he would need a programmer to write the final end piece. It just sounded to me that he keeps adding on to the system (I think he’s got the bug) so in the long run Crestron is the way to go. IMHO

Grand Concertos sound fantastic in a closed environment, but I’m not a fan of them in open air spaces because to me they tend to sound “hollow”.

Yes I agree too. If u keep adding crestron vs control4 and other similar.

U need to give the zones more power in open environments with external amps to power zones.

We gravitated towards nuvo cause their support is so great vs Russound which we used to use. But again 99 percent of the time that is talking residential.

Im really having fun with the android keypads. I wish the resolution was higher on them though.

Do u know of any android tablets that run over Poe but mount to a wall with a magnetic bracket to keep them as low profile as possible?

No I don’t Jim. I know Crestron has a wall plate adapter that runs over poe for the I pads, but I’m not aware of ones for Android.
A lot of companies are trying to go “cheap” by wanting to use their existing i pads for touch panels via the Crestron app, but they always wind up calling us back to put in a real touch panel. Either Crestron or Extron depending on their set-up.

So I few minor update on my build out for the outside zones. All my low volt is run out of the house to the pool house. I wanted to test the first zone to make sure all was run safely. All good. I was just worried cause we pulled 10 wires at a time in the conduit so it's a lot of friction. plus the runs were over 180' inside conduit plus the length outside the conduit. 250' each. i used 12 gauge speaker wire. i fought with colleagues who said i was nuts to run 4 speakers off a 100 watt amp for the length I did. the all wanted me to use 70 volt active speakers. i just didn't want to. plus my home runs inside are all 150' feet about and that was 14 gauge.

well i was right. no signal loss. well none that matters.

i have a TON of organizing to do. but i can't do any of it till I order some custom faceplates with shelves for the new components.

i am pretty impressed with the quality of the signature series proficients. my others throughout my home are their middle of the line ones cause it's just for surround music in the background. but i got these for the same price so why not.

so tomorrow we finish up the low volt and set the speaker runs for around the pool. still on the fence with array speakers vs just 2 pr of rocks speakers. so i ran 2 pair of wire incase i go rocks. if i go array they r on 1 pr of speaker wire in a daisy chain.

i got to get bigger wire nuts. the 12 huge wire is pretty hard to work with. that's just the 2 runs tied together to go into the speaker terminals cause no way u are smashing all the copper into each post.

so i have been chopping away at wiring for the outside. got my rack back together. got all the wires organized and the new zones dressed in the rack. i also finally got my structured wire cabinets free of hanging wires. all my panels, pub panels, and structured wire panels are cleaned for the first time in 5 years.

tomorrow i'm going to mount the new keypad in the kitchen for controlling the outside zones till i get another keypad in the pool house.

it's coming together all i need to but still is the speakers for around the pool. i decided on an array setup vs rocks. 6 speakers and 1 sub.

so those who haven't seen or are trying to learn. this is the lacing bars and 2 shelves for the 2 pool zones.

and that's those shelves wit the equipment showing. i had the opens cut to fit what i need. they have a data base with 1000's of equipment already there but these units and my dvr were not in there so i send them the dimensions, they cut it, and then add it to database for others.

and here is is all dressed and laced in with the other equipment from my basement and dvr for my cameras. all runs are nice and tight. there are service loops above off the rack in case i need to move anything down the road. i can then have enough extra wire to do what is needed.

the power supply for the cameras in pool house. power comes to transformer and video goes to dvr in rack. yes i tried out the back of my racks. not for looks but also to use as nailers for wires as you can see. that's a nice little trick i learned over the years when trying to organize wires on the walls and the screws were not staying in the sheetrock. easier to go into wood vs using a ton of drywall anchors.

my new runs are tied in and a new switch for POE was added for the nuvo keypads and my access point in the pool house so i don't have to use power.

(a sidenote i just bought a ubiquito access point. an ubifi pro AP. it's great. i have always heard great things about them so i decided to try. it's very good so far. it lights up my whole back yard and front yard.)

and everything cleaned up. if anyone is wondering why there r so many sub panels. the first 1 is the main 200 amp service. there is a 100 amp sub up in my attic for my second floor so it's closer if need be. the next 2 are structured wiring for the house. next is an additional 200 amp service panel i added when i did the basement and theatre. this house the basement wiring and theatre lighting. it also has the 100 amp breaker for the poolhouse breaker box. the last one is for just the theatre audio video. a 100 amp sub which star grounds all audio and video so it is separated from noise so my audio and video is as clean as it can be without it having it's own dedicated 2second electrical service for the house.

Yes my son is in IT and he highly recommended these so I now have 2 of these and they work great. He placed one in my office which is at the front of the house and the other is placed in the Flamingo Lounge. It is amazing as I now have gigabyte speeds on my network. I am also surprised how many devices I have connected to the network (like 30 plus devices hardwired and wireless)

before I die I hope. It’s all ready for finish work. The shell along with all wiring is done. The stage for the screen and front speakers and the riser for second row seats r done also. Door is installed and sealed. just finish work which is all the acoustic work along with equipment placement. But that’s a whole winter plus of work still.

I really sont don’t know when it will happen with the outside still not done.

im thinking of dumping my Netgear ones for 2 more of these eventually. So far so good.

i finally got 1 of the new keypads installed. this is the indoor one. it can control any zone since it just uses the app. it's just a android tablet that runs off POE and gets its IP via the hardwired connection since there is no wireless card or battery in the tablet.

i'm using it for other apps like I said before. here is pool app running in on it. figure that's the most imp app that should be running on it. lol

when i get back from vacation i'm going to buy the speakers for around the pool. 6 speakers with a buried sub.

So I'm trying to finish this build out but due to all going on it is pretty much impossible to get the array speakers for around the pool. the new backorder date is end of june so i have to move forward with my landscaping and i'll have to modify how I install the speakers. Last night I was spinning my wheels outside so i went inside and figured i would start to get my rack cleaned up for the new zone.

I just wanted to share these terminations which are compression for speaker wire. these things are from platinum tools. they can handle anything from 16-12 gage wire. i have banana ends but u can get spades also.

I just need to do all my tie down and inside is done.

3 months later it arrives. I’m doing a dry run in my basement where the rack is to make sure it gets wired correctly and all sound appropriate. Very well built. sub enclosure is solid thick plastic all sealed. Not a huge footprint for burial either which is nice. 2 8” drivers.

Dry run done. All working. Just have to break it down and get setup for outside. I have to just tone out my speaker wires. I didn’t mark them very well as usual. At least I don’t think I did.

well being that we are getting a tropical storm today. . . next week.

i just hope my speaker run isn't too long. i might have to buy a larger amp. i'm pushing well over 200 feet. i have done house runs for ceiling speakers and rocks longer but these speakers are soooo inefficient.

On a side note, how do you like the Ubiquiti gear? I just installed a Unifi AC Outdoor AP for one area in the backyard in preparing for the pool area. I'm a big Unifi guy anyway, so am familiar with all the gear, looks like you know your way around this kind of stuff, wondering how you liked it.

i like them. i'm switching my whole home over to them. i did this one outside to try out. so far i'm happy. we just installed 7 in a large home and so far it's been a very solid setup. the setup is different now vs when i installed mine so i'm still learning the app. using the app is much easier than the web based computer program.

I haven’t been able to do anything outside. We got 4 inches of rain last night. This morning I fished the river. Awesome day. Then I came home and it rained. Tomorrow we are bass fishing at our “Disney world of fishing hole”. Hopefully when I get home I have some energy to work on them. My buddy wants to physically be on the water by 4 am. Uggg
