How long to run filter pump

If you don't have an salt water chlorine generator (looks like you don't) then you can run it however long to
keep debris out and water clear.

That being said, I run my single speed pump for only 2 hours daily and it works very well.

I do run it 7 hours a day on weekends during swim season to keep the junk off the surface
when swimming or guests over.

For your size pool being twice as big as mine I'd maybe cut it down to 4hrs and if that works well,
maybe down to 3.

I run mine 3 hours a day. Later in summer, I’ll likely bump to 4 hours a day.

I love to hear this.... these small numbers. I'm currently on a 2hp single speed pump that apparently runs at 2000W, which in my area is ~$175/month!

I'm down to 6hrs/day and water still crystal clear... going to keep going to see where it makes a difference.

Reviving a slightly old thread and yes, I recognize this is probably THE most frequently asked question on TFP. Ive read a dozen threads going back 8+ years so I've tried to do my homework. Since I'm new to pools, I'm not sure how OCD I am being about surface debris.

Other than a couple rose bushes dropping a petal or two a day into the pool, I don't have any "big" debris like leaves falling in. Instead, since I live near an undeveloped canyon, I get lots of little things on the surface - dust, dandelion-like plant material, some dog hair, etc. I've been running my pump 9 hours a day while playing with my pump RPM and this week lowered it from 1800rpm when not cleaning or running the waterfall (to circulate water through my spa) down to 1500, which is about 100rpm higher than what is needed to keep the SWG running. Since dropping to 1500, the water doesn't seem to visibly move towards the skimmer, although when I look in the skimmer there is a "whirlpool". Today I noticed more of this stuff on the surface than I remember over the past few months.

When people say to run the pump long enough to keep the surface skimmed, are they talking about keeping it as clean as possible with ideally nothing on the surface (meaning I should bump back up towards 1800) or are they talking about keeping the big stuff like leaves out of the pool? Like I said, not sure how OC to be to prevent problems. Always a balance with costs.

Thanks for tolerating yet another pump run time/circulation question!
