New Northeastern Pa Build

is there a certain span of days I should only keep it up that high? I didn't know how long u can keep it high if you don't have algae. Was just wondering. My ph will not be valid though right?

jim

You can keep it there as long as you want, it is safe to have FC up to shock level. Hopefully it will help in a couple of weeks. Yes, pH will not be accurate when FC is above 10 ppm.

We have similar size freeform build going on northeast too. I need to convince my husband to do a pool house structure like yours. A fireplace room and kitchen sounds like what I need awesome. I can't wait to see the end results. Your pool looks great love the mickey mouse.

thanks pooldv for the help. Kim had a similar idea. I’m going to give it a go!

ur pool sounds great from ur signature! What part of the northeast u in?

Electrical day. What a cluster. So much stuff to move and redo. I have had a pool for a year and have moved my panel 3 times already. Lol. We have to lengthen everything. All new runs except the pool pump. We have to splice that one. I hope it’s no big deal. I’m assuming no cause it’s jist a 2 wire that is not proprietary on the one end. I have the lengthened cord for the salt cell.

Im a nervous wreck about this move. My electrician wants to make sure every wire can be repulled if need be so we r doing a large splice box on the outside of building into a 5 inch conduit into building. All the wires from equipment will come into that box via conduits. I hope this works ok from the splice box into building through conduit cause that’s where they will all be together. At least we have access without needing to dig the trim he out again in the future.

So my pool is down now. I told my buddy he has till end of day to get it all done so I can turn the pump back on tonight. No pressure. We r moving all the circuits out of the panel into a sub panel too so that all needs to be done by today.

No pressure.

Wow you moved the panel three times in one year? That's crazy! Your house is definitely the place to be!

Only because we had no real plan and everything keeps changing. And costing money.

Sweating bullets for you and your buddy right now!!

Kim:kim:

we got nowhere. The panel is moved and it looks like someone threw up wires all over it. It’s running though. I have no idea when he is coming back down to finish up cause of being behind with rain and stuff. At least it’s running. I think it will look good once done.

ok let's try this again today. hopefully by the end of the day my electrical and low volt will be done. last night i started to tear down my rack in my basement to install the new camera DVR and make room for the nuvo pieces for my outdoor music. my rack is now a mess too. lol i need all kinda new shelves and faceplates, but i just want to get everything tested or back up running for now.

my buddy is there today trying to get everything pulled form the house to pool house through my conduits. i hope we have enough room. lots of runs. i think he is cleaning up my easytouch for me too and i'll clean up the equipment pad.

hopefully our plan for the salt cell to make it easy to install and uninstall as needed. i still can't believe they charge over 100 dollars for an extension wire for that thing. oh even worse a replacement high voltage cover panel is 90! it's a piece of metal. i just couldn't look at the inside of the panel with al lthe breakers now out and the knockout for the breakers not being there and seeing a open space lol

wire throw up!

is that 100 amp service code on that wall? :p

we didn't have time to get it put back together and run properly. for next week.

then you got this low volt mess I got to deal with. 4 cameras, 8 speakers, 6 cat6a shielded, 2 cat5e

still not all run outside! but the pool pad is coming together nicely and my easy touch is looking good finally!

Hey Cliff, How much you want to bet Jim was having nightmares all night about all of those wires just hanging there instead of being neat and tidy!

Jim You do some great work and I am SURE it will be neat and tidy in no time!

Great job Jim!

thanks man! How’s Phin? U got him working hard?!

thanks Kim. I sent my buddy a pic after he left and he was laughing cause he knew I was shaking. Had to go away for weekend so it’s all still there. Lol

Wow, this is an amazing thread to scroll through! We're about to break ground on our first pool so I came on here to learn more. Jim, I love what you've come up with. And as a 10-year Disney fanatic (DVC member, honeymooned there, annual trips) and a BIG TIME Penn Stater (We are!), I've really enjoyed the extra, personal touches you added to make it your own. Now I feel the need to figure out a way to get a hidden Mickey in my pool project...

lol. Thanks. Ya we r a big Disney family. Even before kids. We r off again in mid June.

Drove by Beaver Stadium today actually. Near and dear to our hearts.

I had the mickey heads by a custom shop down in Florida actually. I was their first Disney request. Lol

good luck with ur build!

do u have a thread started?

i appreciate u stopping by!

Agree good stuff on CSI so I will toss in my thoughts:

I use pool math to do the calculating for everything. For me it seems that ph and temps have the biggest effects on CSI once you have a reasonable balance in the pool. So in pool math I use the target side and plug in the numbers I would like to achieve with ph at 5 and temp set at 90. Ph of 5 because this is what my target should be for SWG. Temp of 90 was chosen because of the average temps for the swimming season last year. Then based on last years numbers and help from lots of folks I plug in my desired numbers which are driven by ph/temp.

I don't get excited if my now numbers are off especially CSI as I work toward my target. Here is my current example:

TARGET - FC 5, pH 7.7, TA 80, CH 375, CYA 80, Salt 3000, Temp 90 = CSI -.01
NOW - FC 6.5, pH 7.5, TA 70, CH 375, CYA 70, Salt 2300, Temp 80 = CSI -.3

I am currently adjusting chems slowly to get to my TARGET. Salt is low due to winter and I will add more salt after the acid bath and first cleaning of the DE filter. Once this is done I can ditch the bleach and focus on final tweaks. Unless something really crazy happens I expect my CSI to be -.05 to +.05 all summer long and thus I see this as being successful using the TFP methods!

Good discussion on CSI here. Lots of good points. I 100% agree that obsessing aboutanumber unnecessary and staying range is all that is needed. My pool etched the first winter because my CSI was way too low, well below -0.6.

I keep my CSI above 0 during winter, which is easy because my pH wants to be 7.8 or more anyway. It is far easier to deal with a little scale and it is impossible to do anything about plaster etching besides replaster.

I keep my CSI around -0.3 in summer. I usually lower it toward -0.5ish and let it rise to -0.1ish and repeat. My SWG was installed in summer 2012 and i have never needed to clean it. It is still clean as a whistle and works like a champ.

My black plaster is significantly fading in many areas, the more sun exposure the more faded it is. To the point of being light gray. Places with little to no sun exposure are still completely black. There are pics in my pool thread, link in sig. It has nothing to do with saltwater, chlorine, CSI, bleach or anything else but the sun. The pebbles are all still the same color but the plaster color now varies widely. We were going for a natural pond look so he more variation the better as far as were concerned. Our pool still looks amazing to us. But, expecting pigment in dark colored plaster to remain uniform is an unrealistic expectation.

Enjoy the June trip! We just scheduled one for December. As for our build, I haven't created a thread yet; I need to get my spec sheet out to remind myself of all the details. Our city did approve our permit yesterday, so hopefully the build will start in the next 3-4 weeks.

I won't take that bet Kim...:p

thanks Kim. I sent my buddy a pic after he left and he was laughing cause he knew I was shaking. Had to go away for weekend so it’s all still there. Lol

Be careful Kim. Cliff knows I got a lot more going on outside right now. Lol

Ya it’s killing me bit last night I was all over the place.

Washing my fireplace brick. While that was drying the son and myself cleaned up a bit then I started in on the low volt cleanup in the pool house cause that is the prime priority. Then my buddy showed up so I got derailed to do the corners on the building for the brick so we can pull lines tonight and get setup for brick. And I think I was hussled at the same time to labor for my brick. Mixing the mud. Worse possible job to get stuck with in the summer heat. Lol he left and I had to clean up around the pool cause wall-e was doing his thing. I brushed my tile line.

Ya so basement. Back burner right now. Lol

tonight i do not go to bed till my salt is in! I have to grab it from my parents basement and get it in!!!

i did my salt level and cya this morning. I’m at 900-1000 for salt and 50 for cya.

So im going to shoot for 3200 vs higher for now and shoot for 70 to be safe.

Jim
