New Oasis on Long Island

So excited to be starting again.:swim: I have been looking at this mess for almost a year now. As we had to move our cesspools which destroyed the yard before pool project could even start. Then the pool build started in Sept. then a very long winter here. Spring came and no work could start as we had snow. It was been the coldest spring since 1973 or 1974 I read in the news. Finally starting work again they removed old stamped concrete on Fri. where new patio will be. We ended up choosing marble pavers in white. I have been calling our yard a mud pit for a very very long time. I am a clean freak so this has been torture for me. I have even said if I would have known the whole yard would be destroyed my not have wanted to do the pool. I am sure once everything is complete I wont feel that way.

Over the winter we decided to take out a second big tree. Hate to take out the trees but the first was a must as no sun on pool. The second we were on the fence about but figured if we were perhaps going to want to remove it better to do now. As if the stone patio was down and then we decided to remove the tree the patio would most likely get damaged. Hope we made the right decision.

Here's a sample of the Afyon white pavers

Sub base Concrete for the patio was done yesterday. We are very unhappy. We had decided to rip up the old patio because it was pitched towards the house. We had multiple discussions with the PB regarding this. And they pitched it towards the house. Just like the old patio. I called him about it, but have not heard back yet.

Any thoughts?

Also, they didn't concrete the braces in the back of the pool where the wall is going. I'm sure they will have to sit the wall on concrete.

Anyone have a guess of why they didn't pour it with the rest of the pool/patio?

Do you have a long level? or a small ball like a ping pong or marble to let is roll and show the slope? A picture is worth 1000 words to show your PB.

As to why they did not take it all the way out I would like to see what the contract and plans show for that area. What were they working off of to show how much and where it was to go?

I bet there will be some jackhammers in your back yard to fix like you wanted :(

Hi Kim,

You might not be able to tell in the picture, but in person it's very obvious. I asked the men why they did it that way and they said the boss told them to do it that way. One of the guys was talking to another in Spanish and said he didn't like it either. I turned to him and said me neither, in Spanish. I don't look like I speak the language. Lol

I don't know where the miscommunication was but I think it's partly because they are really busy.

A step? Was there every any talk of it not being a step? I do like it not being a step though. Less of a trip hazard.

Now the slope towards the house..................NOPE and adult word NOPE!!! Take out and redo. You and I both know the first BIG rain you are going to get water in the house!! That has to come out and be regraded and done.

The edge you called squared....it does not look good BUT I think it can be ground with a grinder and made to look better. I would let them try. If they can't make it pretty then REDO time!

Original design had the step because they made the pool higher. The area was a low spot before the pool was put in.
I'm just a little worried about how much pitch will be in the patio to make up that 4 inches.

I believe you're right they can fix the curve.

And we are in agreement about the pitch in the patio towards the house. IT MUST GO.

they haven't called me back or answered messages in 2 days. I'm going to call again tomorrow.

I see a "sit in" happening at their office. You take in a cooler full of drinks, some snacks, your lap top and get comfy by the front door until one of the uppers in the company is ready to talk to you!

And I think this arc looks squared.
Am I being too picky?

that pitch to the house looks huge.

the squared curve. u are placing pavers on this scratch coat right? if yes don't worry. when we poured my scratch coat it was what i wanted for curves but when we started to put down the pavers we changed the curves a bit so some hang over a few inches in some spots and there is extra scratch coat in some areas. no big deal as long as 75% of the paver is on scratch coat. especially if u are gluing the outside border ones down to lock the field in.

go after them on that pitch though!
